CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Indians claimed switch-hitting first baseman Mike McDade on waivers from Toronto. They put the 6-1, 250-pound McDade on the 40-man roster by designating lefty Chris Seddon for assignment.

McDade, 23, played at Class AA New Hampshire and Class AAA Las Vegas last season. He hit a combined .285 (128-for-449) with 19 doubles, one triple, 17 homers and 67 RBI in 118 games.

He spent a month with Las Vegas, hitting .338 (27-for-71) with three doubles, two homers and 18 RBI in 18 games. The Pacific Coast League has always treated hitters well.

Overall, McDade hit .298 (97-for-326) against right-handers.

I would be shocked if Dolan would put any of this sales profit into free agents. It probably will go into the market... the stock market:wink:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Fox Sports Ohio is close to purchasing SportsTime Ohio for between $200 million and $250 million, said a source familiar with the negotiations. The sale could be completed by the end of December and would increase the Indians' rights fees for broadcasting their games from $30 million to an estimated $40 million a year.

It's not known if the sale will help improve the state of the struggling Indians by giving the front office more money to pursue big-ticket free agents or trade for high-priced talent this winter. The Indians and STO are owned by Larry Dolan and his family.

hmmmmmmm

The Cleveland Indians are reportedly “prime suitors” for veteran outfielder Shane Victorino.

In dire need of adding talent at a position of need, the Indians, per ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick, have emerged as the likely landing spot for the long-time Philadelphia Phillies outfielder. Chris Antonetti has long been a fan of Victorino with interest dating back to last season. He’s joined by the Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs and New York Yankess in terms of interested parties.

Crasnick reports via Twitter that newly hired manager Terry Francona personally called Victorino earlier this offseason.

The 31-year-old outfielder is coming off of a disappointing 2012 season — in comparison to the 2009 and 2011 seasons wherein Victorino garnered MVP consideration — in which he hit .255/.321/.383 with 11 home runs, 55 runs batted in, 39 stolen bases and a career-worst OPS of .704.

Seeing that outfielders BJ Upton and Angel Pagan have signed long-term deals, it is believed that Victorino is seeking a contract in the 3-to-4-year range. It is believed that a deal, regardless of team, could get done before teams leave Nashville’s Winter Meetings.

I like the way Victorino plays the game, but why am I having David Delucci flashbacks...

david delucci would need all of barry bonds' cream and clear to get to victorino territory.

that being said, for what it will cost to sign him, this had bad written all over it.

Well, that's kind of what I meant...the signing, not necessarily the equivalent pile of suck.

victorino will at least be moderately productive. it's not just pissing away money like the delucci/michaels platoon. normally nobody cares, since there is no cap in baseball. but when a team is looking at capping payroll at around $55 million, dropping what will likely be 15% of that total on a guy like him is shitty.

So which bum over the hill or never has been OFer will they look to since they missed here?

hopefully Jason Michaels isnt available :!

i don't know that cleveland not exceeding a 3 year $38 million deal for shane victorino is considered "missing".

but the gradual erosion of baseball continues.

Yea that's true, they would be stupid to blow their wad trying to outbid the Red Sox for Victorino

but still it would be nice to be able to sign a FA who is not a total scrub
