Cleveland Indians (2013 Season)

Why is Mark Reynolds on the team? Why?

Good question. Another good question...why is Rich [censored]ing Hill still on this team? He's this year's Chad Durr-bin.

Does anybody really buy these schmucks as contenders? As much as we gripe about the chicken-coup, the offense is jut as bad. Nine hits and four runs in two games against the [censored]ing Twinkies. Way to show up you [censored]ing hacks...and holy fack is Chisenhall a butcher. What the furk is wrong with that guy?

Nice game by Masterson...again...but this team is still hanging by a thread. They have virtually no chance at a WC, so they had best keep Deroit within reach. They almost seem to need evrerything but starting pitching at the moment...kind of funny how much has turned around in this season.

Oh, and for all of those "big signings" they made...Reynolds is useless, Swisher has been mostly worthless, and Bourn has been OK when he isn't hurt. And Myers was terrible and got hurt. So yeah, nice goin' Shapinetti...right?

The only hope they have is for some major changes to happen. Namely:
- Swisher needs to start earning his contract.
- Reynolds needs to stop being a windy turd. If he can give 2/3 of the production he have the first six weeks of the season, it would be a huge help. Can't really count on that at all.
- Basically, somebody other than Kipnis needs to start providing some regular production. Brantley has been pretty solid. Santana has had his moments. Same with Yanimal. Everybody else has been anywhere from mediocre to downright awful.
- If they are going to stick with Chis, please teach him how to catch and throw.
- Somebody other than Masterson needs to figure out how to make it past the sixth inning on a fairly regular basis. This bullpen is way too shaky to count on to protect 1 or 2 run leads on a regular basis.
- That brings us to...bullpen help. Rich Hill should not be on a ML roster. He's goddamn awful. Joe Smith has gone in the [Mark May]ter, and nobody else is all that reliable.

That's a lot of needs. Somehow, they're still hanging around, though. And the schedule is favorable. Maybe they make a couple of moves, but there just doesn't seem to be much out there on the trade market, so not sure what they could/would do.

I expect them to continue the same trend they've been on all season. Do moderately well against the chumps (this series not withstanding), and lay down to the good teams. I expect Detroit to start to play to their potential, as they've been a very good second half team the past couple of years. No reason to expect differently this year. The Tribe will probably finish up around 83-85 wins...and 10-12 games back. No wildcard either, as those will go to the AL East and West.

There are solid pieces here to build around. We'll see if they are active in FA again. Hopefully no more Reynolds type signings, but that's what I fully expect. :!

So here's what you say you want:

Swisher: injured shoulder to magically get better (my money is on him getting surgery as soon as his season is over)

Brantley and Santana (and Kipnis too, I guess): continue to have career best, to date, seasons, and be among AL leaders in a few stats, all of which you call "pretty solid"

Reynolds: suddenly be way better than his baseball card says his career has been

Rest of position players: just like Reynolds...see above

Hill and rest of pen: suddenly become decent when he's pitched like crap nearly every outing all season, and Pistano to become healthy....

2013 Record: be 15 to 18 wins, or more, better than 2012, a jump virtually unprecedented in Tribe history.

Well, this they say, there's a chance.........

As far as Rich Hill goes....i've always though the "lefthanded specialist" reliever is the most overrated concept in baseball

what good is it if the lefty specialist....can't get anyone out? put a damn right hander out there who can get people out

Yeah, I mean, that's somewhat on the money...

I think my issue is, they need to maybe accept that Swisher isn't healthy and move Santana to the 4, I can't remember the last multi-hit game Swisher has had... not to say its been that long, as much as its probably not been very often... in fact, might be best to move Smooth to the 4, Brantley to the 5 and then have Reynolds and Swisher see what they can give you around 6 and 7... if one catches fire, revisit the situation.

As to Reynolds, no one was complaining when he was on fire and they won 24 of 29 or whatever it was. That's who he is. The hope should be that he catches fire again.

The only knock on Bourn is health... I mean, his averages are at or above his career levels.

The bullpen has been terrible... and we needed it to be perfect. In a lot of ways, the Starting Pitching has been better than I thought at the beginning of the season... I mean, they need to go deeper, no doubt, but, that was the worry at the beginning. Obviously doesn't help that Myers who was supposed to directly address that ended up being the fragile one, but, when you have rookies and scrap heap guys in spring training, there have been some pleasant surprises...

really though, brantley, santana and kipnis aren't doing anything that really exceeds what their projected career arcs would be.

I know that most of you guys are aware that on Cleveland.com in the sports section there was some talk about moving Swisher to God #2 spot in the lineup and moving Kipnis down to #4. I do not think I would like to see that at all. I would rather have, as mentioned above, have Santana moved to the #4 slot and have Swisher move down

Reynolds on the other hand, I would like to see him permanently be moved to the bench and the Indians can just eat his contract.

I do not know what has happened to Chis because up until this past weekend he played a fairly decent third-base and I thought that was one of the reasons he was playing rather than Aviles. I guess I now know different.

I assume you're talking about suspensions linked to the Florida aging clinic? Any suspensions handed down this far into the season from that are not very likely to become effective this season. Under the collective bargaining agreement the players will have the right to appeal. These won't be suspensions based on failing PED tests so the accelerated appeal process won't apply. If there are a large number of suspensions, it also would not be surprising to see the players' association file litigation too.
Mr. Braun says hi:wink: Now if a few Detroit Tigers can receive the same punishment that would be very helpful.
