Cleveland Indians (2019 Thread of Indifference)

Puts a guy in the 7 hole if you want that can hit a dinger. This is about extending the lineup. Hell they may platoon him who the fuck knows. Need a DH too. The other guys are the key to the deal anyway

The OF from San Diego is “very limited defensively” from what I read. So I imagine DH is his destination

Tribe acquitted themselves very nicely with this deal. Especially excited about Reyes and Allen. It was important to get young, controllable talent for Bauer and they did that. Adding one of the hottest hitters in baseball the last two months (Puig), at a giant position of need, is just an added bonus.

Also huge that they didn't need to trade Bauer to the Yankees or Astros to get a deal of this caliber done.

Just an outsider's view, but I think this helps the Indians immensely for the future.

First things first, it was clear Bauer was done (at least to me) with the Indians the moment he uncorked the ball in KC. It's possible this could have developed into a locker room cancer thing too. While Puig isn't the "superstar" the Dodgers thought they were getting however many years ago, he's still got power and he is at least adequate in the field. He's never going to be a .300 hitter but he could easily hit 10-15 homers to finish out the season and extends the lineup.

Franmil Reyes is a monster and probably not as good in the OF as Puig is, but the stats say he isn't horrible either. I would say Puig gets most of the time in Right Field. Reyes is also another power guy that will extend the lineup.

If the start pitching that remains holds up, I think the Indians have the horses to win the Central at least.

I'm blocking you.. once I figure out how

"What could the haul for Francisco Lindor look like? I won’t completely give up on the Indians’ chances of retaining him long-term until he’s out of the uniform. But when you think about Lindor’s value compared to Bauer’s value ... could the Indians get four MLB-ready young players for him when it’s time? Could they reshape their roster on the fly and keep winning, because Lindor on the market could be such a rare commodity?"
