Adam Plutko pitched last night and had given up 2 runs through 4 1/3 innings when all of a sudden Francona trots out of the dugout and waves to the bullpen for Cookie. The tribe announces said that Plutko had a shocked look on his face when Francona waved to the bullpen. There was no one on base and there was one out so it was pretty strange. Never heard Matt underwood criticize Francona before last night but he did when Francona took out Plutko and Adam did not look very happy looking over the first rail of the dugout after being taken out.

It was only a 2-run game, he just gave up a HR, and with an off day today, why not use the pen. Plutko almost never goes past 6 anyway.

Plutko had gotten to the 5th via smoke, mirror and his lucky rabbit’ foot keychain. Angels had runners in scoring position in 1st, 2nd, and 4th. Pen had day off on Tuesday and, as DZ noted, day off on Thursday. Tito is in playoff mode. It’s the only way they might have a chance to get to October.

If it had been a June or July game, Plutko might have been allowed to try to finish the 5th. Matt Underwoody surprised? Well bless his lil heart! Remember we’re talking about the same guy who gushes over routine plays nearly every game.
