Columbus Blue Jackets (Official Thread)

After last night the Blue Jackets have now lost 6 in a row and 13 of the last 15 games. I think the Blue Jackets record for consecutive losses is 14 set back in 2011 (over 2 seasons). There is still 9 more games to go this season.

Going full tank mode in a year where the draft sucks in ideal

I read this in a TSN article, the 2021 NHL draft could also be a "crap shoot":

It’s a draft year like no other. The pandemic has created a playing field that is anything but level. Most prospects haven’t played in the quantity or quality of games they normally would. Some haven’t played at all and some of those who have found themselves in unfamiliar leagues and surroundings.
Scouts have not been able to do much in-arena scouting. And while many NHL scouts are locked and loaded, ready to draft players based on unprecedented levels of video scouting, many of the evaluators are still trying to discern this year’s data and what it all means.

Just sayin': I wonder if the Blue Jacket scouts are "locked and loaded" or "still trying to discern this year's data"?

Roslovic got a power play goal, Jackets down 2-1 at the end of the 1st. Half the players for the Blue Jackets are "call ups".

The Blue Jackets are imploding, they're now down 5-1 at the end of the 2nd.

Goaltender Spencer Knight, 20, makes most of NHL debut, leads Florida Panthers to easy victory

Spencer Knight made 33 saves in his NHL debut as the recharged Florida Panthers defeated the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-1 on Tuesday night in Sunrise, Florida.

Knight, a 2019 first-round pick of Florida out of Boston College, signed his entry-level deal with the Panthers after the Eagles' season ended in the NCAA tournament. He served as the Panthers' backup on Monday night against Columbus before getting the starting nod on Tuesday as Florida completed a back-to-back set.

"He looked very cool and calm in the net. The way he came out and handled pucks, assessed all his options, you could see an understanding of where everybody is around the rink," Florida coach Joel Quenneville said. "He tracks the puck extremely well. Very composed."

Great culture they got there. Employees/players completely broken. Bodes well!

Everyone knows that professional sports is a "business first" including the players/employees.

Merzlikins seems like the only one who genuinely cares. Everyone else's attitude is just kind of ho hum whatever

I'm sure there are others that care too; however, the Blue Jackets' front office calls the shots. They are not playing to maximize their chances of winning anymore games this season, they are now playing for the 2021/2022 season and beyond.

a. They were sellers this time around, trading away Foligno, Savard, and Nash. This got them a few more draft picks and 2 were 1st rounders.

b. They shut down a couple players recovering from injuries that might have been able to play.

c. They want to evaluate some of their "prospects".

d. Losing games increases the their % that they will improve on their draft positions.
