CDC death prediction for August. Seems far fetched based on recent trends.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/health/me...-from-covid-this-month/ar-BB17w9xc?li=BBnb7Kz
This past week (last Monday thru yesterday) was the largest one-week total (7,908) since the week ending May 24th (8,315). The last time we were at 11,000 deaths per week as the article predicts was the week ending May 10th (12,190). Our current SDMA of 1,130 still had us at around 7,900 deaths per day, so instead of the 44,000 deaths they're predicting that's 31,600 deaths or or 12,400 less than predictions. Keep in mind that deaths lag behind cases, so even though the death rate has been increasing the case rate over the last 10 days or so has been decreasing, which will lead the a corresponding reduction in the death rates likely within the next few days to a week, which would thus increase the difference between what the article predicts and reality.

What a garbage article that is. For their citation on the 11,000/week, they link to a fucking Yahoo! news article -- and that article says the CDC projects (in a new projection that has not been publicly released) the total US death toll will be between 168k-182k by August 22nd with between 5,000-11,000 new deaths per week by 8/22. Not that those numbers aren't serious, but god damn media....you want to know why people think this is a all hoax or not at all serious? It's because of bullshit articles like this. Fuck off.

The pandemic is taking it's toll on local small businesses. Just like the recession a few years back there are a growing number of small businesses gone now. but I know those empty spaces will mostly come back like what happened before. Taos is a resort town basically and has lots of visitors every year. I understand real-estate is doing well which means there will be new blood brought into town. This is a rather unique town with much history and art in it's past and future. Ansel Adams and Georgia OKeefe were here once. Julia Roberts is still here along with several lesser actors. It's a multicultural small town and unique. There are still many visitors coming even now. Taos has gone back to work now with outside dining and mask wearing. Por favor usa una máscararilla!

Treatments that will soon be available.

Bill Gates is hopeful that eventually there will be an effective coronavirus vaccine.
But in the near term, treatments could "cut the death rate quite dramatically, which would be a very big deal," he said.
Gates said antiviral drugs, monoclonal antibodies, and steroids were all promising treatments that could be ready to go much sooner than vaccines, possibly in a matter of months.
