Darrell Hazell (official thread)

Another win today. Amazing how he's turned things around at Kent State. 11-1 so far with a game left against N. Illinois. Sure can coach. Coach's gonna win a NC someday. Just hope he doesn't become a Wolverine.

Really, I'll be surprised if he is coaching at Kent next year:(

Sadly I agree with this. He might only have one more game as the KSU coach so we need to enjoy the MAC championship game next week. The only way he lasts past this season is if there is another job that he wants that isn't open yet i.e. anything in the B1G. Turning Kent around in 2 years is probably as good of a coaching job as anyone has done. I doubt he is a big enough name for the Vols, but I'm sure a team like UK will give him a look.

Coach Hazell's next move will be the most important so he may delay it a year or two waiting for the right opportunity. It might not be worth going to a school like UK that has no chance to win the conference.

If ND wins tomorrow Brian Kelly is going to win it. :ohwell:

And the Heisman and the Lombardi will go to Teo. They'll get a float in next year's Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade. In between the airwaves will be filled to overflowing with Irish lore and their fight song will go beyond platinum.

I hate to seek a favor from Lane Kiffin, but this tide of shit has gotta be stopped before it gets back to 1950s - 1960s proportions.

Great to see my Alma Matter have some success in football. Now maybe they can get some fans into the stadium. I always thought he would be the next head coach at The Ohio State University until that whole Jim Tressel thing happened.

If you think he is going to move on after this year you need to look at the opening positions and the possible openings.

Open:
Cal
Idaho
Kentucky
Tennessee
UTEP
Western Michigan

Possibly Open in 2013
Boston College
Aurburn
Maryland
Southern Miss
USC
Kansas
Colorado
Purdue
Georgia Tech
UConn

I don't like any of the open positions right now For Coach Hazell. Idaho, UTEP and Western Michigan would all be lateral moves that would do nothing for his career. Kentucky football will always be the forgotten kid in Kentucky athletics program. Any SEC program brings with it unreal expectations that can never be met unless you are playing in the championship every year. I don't think that would happen at Tennessee.

I don't think he would be ready to jump into one of the power conferences right away. I do think that he could go to Maryland in the not so power conference that is the ACC for a couple of years and be ready when they move into the B1G. With Maryland going to the B1G they would be able to stop State Penn from recruiting Maryland.

Boston College and Georgia Tech could be possible, but then he would be moving into a dying conference.

Of course he could stay where he is and hope the Big East and the MAC would merge, or that Kent State gets an invitation to join the Big East.

I think he can handle the job at Cal...

Of all the schools on that list Purdue has the most potential and would be a good fit.
Not so sure we'd want Hazell to be at Purdue or any other B1G school...
