DC/LB Coach Jim Knowles (Official Thread)

Very fitting because this D is a near mirror image of that one. Dependable secondary play that limits explosive plays, but a pedestrian DL that gets gashed consistently for 4-7 yard runs and only has one DE that provides flashes of greatness. They're good enough to give us a chance in the B1G but not NC-good, imo. The DL has to be better
You're not wrong, the DL has to play better or we will lose a couple games this year. Good news on that front is that we have a crap ton of talent on the DL. Bad news is we are wildly underperforming at the position. At the end of the day, great talent and a coach like LJ Sr should get it done, but I'm getting a little worried on that front to be perfectly honest.

Go shove it up Harbaugh's cheating ass with a candle on it and all is forgiven in my book.

'Til then

I have to say Knowles is changing my mind from last year. Obviously final exam is last game of the regular season.

In his four years at Oklahoma State, his defense made massive improvements in nearly every statistical category each season. Buckeyes D is going to be unreal in a couple years if it's already this good now.

Game ball, Knowles gets it. That was a well coached unit that knew their assignments and was almost always in the right place. Easy to cast shade when things look bad, but I'm going to be the first to cheer the guy on after that performance. Offense put them in a ton of bad positions, Knowles didn't flinch or bitch out with excuses, his side just got the job done. Period.

I was saying at the game watch that it's truly a joy having the silver bullets back as a strength. I actually enjoy seeing the defense run out on the field.

IMO, OSU had 4 tests this season. For the team overall but also mainly for the defense.
1. WKU- this is due to their passing game and could this new DB unit shut down their passing offense. And could the DL create pressure to force mistakes. :day:
2. ND- could OSU impose their Will on the new QB who gave them an improved pass offense. And could OSU stop their power run game:jt:
3. Ped St- could the DL and LBs shut down the very good RBs. And could enough pressure be created to make Allar make mistakes, since they were averaging 40pts/gm:urban1:
4. ScUM- TBD

But so far, 3 of 4 tests have been passed. With the biggest final exam coming in November. But this defense looks elite and should only get better as they get more experience
