DE Darrion Henry-Young (transfer to Kentucky)

I think people are also glossing over the Grinch hire and his lack of recruiting. This started before Hafley

Yep. Easy to see in hindsight but the 2017 class was defense dominant and historically good. The three after that were disasters defensively.

The '21 class sure looks like it may have turned the tide but they are going to have to be developed better, coached better and be followed up with more talent in '22 and beyond. Five of the eight top 100 guys in '22 being defensive players (so far) certainly looks like a good start.

There is no "alleged" lack of development. There is a lack of development for three straight classes.

As far as the Oklahoma thing goes, they have willingly only recruited a single top 100 defensive player two years running while stockpiling elite offensive talent. The results on the field show the best offense in the country with a B12 caliber defense. I don't think it's a big stretch to start questioning Day about the Oklahoma thing at all. Add in his vaunted offense not breaking 30 against the defenses he played with a pulse because of an alarming lack of physicality on the OL then I think Oklahoma/B12 is teh perfect comp.

Coombs can't call a defense in game to save his life, that's painfully obvious to us all but I'm not going to fail to call it out when people start to try and make everything that's wrong with the defense one big "oopsie/just bad luck/one bad hire and it's all fixed now" thing and try to give Day, and other coaches, a pass for this.

The dramatization of “they willingly only recruited one top 100 defensive player” is telling. Did they only recruit one or did they only land one?

Who are you referring to when you say “but I'm not going to fail to call it out when people start to try and make everything that's wrong with the defense one big "oopsie/just bad luck/one bad hire and it's all fixed now" thing and try to give Day, and other coaches, a pass for this?” Because I’ve said since he was hired that Coombs was not going to be a good DC. Who is making excuses and giving Day a pass? I’ve constantly mentioned how bad the staff is constructed.

The fact that Day has made changes to the defense every time he has needed to is a positive sign. But to act like Ohio State is now Oklahoma is over dramatization.

Can't or won't. What's the difference?

Who are you referring to when you say “but I'm not going to fail to call it out when people start to try and make everything that's wrong with the defense one big "oopsie/just bad luck/one bad hire and it's all fixed now" thing and try to give Day, and other coaches, a pass for this?” Because I’ve said since he was hired that Coombs was not going to be a good DC. No one specifically but there is a general argument being made that does exactly that. Knowles is here, it's all good and Day couldn't have possibly done anything different the past couple of years or known that the defense was a flaming sack of dogshit before he stomped it all over the porch.

But to act like Ohio State is now Oklahoma is over dramatization.

B12 like then? I define a B12 team as a pass first, finesse team that can score tons of points (by passing) but doesn't play defense worth a shit and struggles to run the ball or score more than 30 points when they play any physical defense with a pulse.

If you saw something different than that on the field wearing OSU uniforms this fall then we'll have to agree to disagree.

Betting that Cincy will get him. His bet buddy is playing for Cincy, and believe it was his #2(?) before committing to the good guys along with his other buddy Paris Johnson. He'll probably get more minutes with UC, and with them joining the B12, maybe more TV exposure? Anyway, good luck young man.
