DE Zach Harrison (All B1G, Atlanta Falcons)

There are 129 right choices and 1 wrong choice. Good luck to him anywhere but tsun. May every player who goes there fall flat on their face every snap.

I'm not getting soft in my older age or nothing, but there's been a few things that's taken place this year that's gotten me to ease up on the hard lines of allegiance like that. Life's too short to not get out in the world and experience it.

Ok...I'm going to drink a protein shake with two shots of testosterone

The only mild silver lining is that Harrison is a piece of clay that needs to be molded. Incredible talent but he doesn’t have the skill level, hands, or technique of a Bosa. So while I expect him to hurt us down the line, it’s down the line - not 3-4 straight years. More than likely 1-2 years of top level play after he reaches his potential.

But man, that top level is gonna be scary when he gets there.

Kind of like Taco Charlton?

That one worked out pretty OK for the Wolverines.
Yes, somewhat like that, though Taco might have been better as a senior. Taco salvaged his college career late in the process and did not come close to the college careers of Lewis or Bosa (who OSU took instead).

The difference here is Zach's ceiling is magnitudes higher than Taco's ever was, OSU wants him badly and OSU does not have two studs in this class already.

This is a painful loss, but OSU needs immediate help on the DL and Zach does not provide that. He brings a currently low floor with a stratospheric ceiling down the line.
Exactly... no offense to Zach who will be a good player but he's far from even a Rashan Gary type of talent even.

Speed? Yes. Strength? Not even close.

He's a tall guy who needs to add another 30-40 pounds. He will be good but like you said I seriously doubt he's a first year impact like Bosa.

Unfortunately kids have short memories and right now they dont remember the multiple NFL DEs. Right now they see a defense that week in and week out gets shredded. Couple that with head coach drama in the preseason and I'm not shocked.

Whatever though... if he goes elsewear go find someone from Ohio that wants to be a buckeye. Surely someone currently committed to ttun would want to flip.

I dont think that his decision is all football related. Zach doesnt seem like the kid that's all about football, the rivalry, history, etc. He could be more for the scUM academics or a kid that truly wants to leave Ohio for college, it happens.

So he unofficially visited strictly for academic purposes a month ago and unofficially visited for a game against a 2-6 team, and we are already justifying his commitment somewhere else? Zach might go somewhere else but I think we are also failing to see the potential reasons to think he will stay in Columbus. I mean, I agree that Harrison would not be an immediate contributor. But I also think he is about as close as you get to a "must have" recruit with all things considered (Columbus recruit, position of need, huge ceiling, etc.). It would be a huge hit to not get Harrison, but I feel like there are enough reasons to be optimistic here.

Nope, no one has to respect any such alleged desire, nor agree with the asserted connection between leaving the state and being one's "own man."

You have to go out of your way to be a [recruiting forum rules] about someone doing what they feel is best for themselves that does absolutely no damage to anyone else's life.

But those are the times we're in, I guess.

I'm going to assume that the term that was covered up by "[recruiting forum rules]" was not complimentary. Unless the mods decided, for some reason, to censor "really great guy!"

But to your point, obviously any recruit's decision is his alone. That doesn't mean we have to celebrate it (the term you used, "respect" is a little vague here) if an OSU-caliber Ohio recruit goes elsewhere. Especially to there. If it happens, drop it and move on; but don't lift it up as some admirable statement of independence. But maybe I'm just being a [recruiting forum rules].

I typed the recruiting censor myself. It was not complimentary and it was not personally directed at you.

I do find your opinion a bit odd, but it's an opinion.

I don't see how choosing the best path in life for you, regardless of what outsiders may say and the pressure/expectations they place upon you, isn't an admirable statement of independence. Especially for an 18 year old, when they typically do whatever their friends do and try to please others.
