Did we really get "killed?" (a complete evaluation of our let-downs, 1st half 21-3)

usc is going to do that to EVERYONE. they are that good.

i think they can beat the dolphins.

That reminds me of a commercial on ESPN in 2002, wherein some teenager informs us that the Miami Hurricanes could beat the Cincinnati Bengals...weeks before the Canes lost to the Ohio State Buckeyes. :ohwell:

College and pro are two different animals. The Dolphins would kick the snot out of USC.

I love my Buckeyes, but let's be honest here, that was an old fashioned butt kickin'. And that followed a lackluster, less than honorable finish against Ohio U and a pretty ordinary game against Youngstown State. There are problems to be solved on this team and I'm hoping they begin to solve them Saturday.

Yes, even when we were playing well and leading.

I started losing hope after the pick-6. But I thought we could make it a game if we made the proper adjustments and came out with a fire under our asses. Neither happened, hence my user title.

I always wondered what 3074326 meant.

Thanks for clearing that up! :p

And was followed up by a marginal performance against Troy. We got our asses jacked up by a better USC team and got more than we needed from Troy and Ohio. We need to keep improving and showing some real desire and urgency or this season could mimic TSUNs from last year. Our DLine play is....weak and uninspired. Perhaps it's because of this or perhaps it's because our LBs aren't the magic we thought they were, but our LBs are getting beat more than we expected.

Our offense has now been shuffled and must regroup...it's showing signs of talent, but also signs of having a change-up thrown at it. Not surprising considering what's happened, but nonetheless, a VERY uncomfortable position to be in going into game 4 of the season. I like what I see of Boom, hard running, but is Saine just "lost" for the year? Hartline seemed steady again, but Robo...is he just not healthy as some have suggested or is he just not making plays? I don't know, but what I DO know is that what I saw last year and the year before was better than what has been shown this year. Ray Small...back to the doghouse? I dunno, but we sure didn't see much of him.

Meanwhile, on the sidelines, I didn't see much inspiration in playcalling either. For quite a while it seemed that we weren't in a mood to pass until 3rd down. Fortunately, that changed late in the 3rd Quarter...but why wait until then?

I have to admit that I just don't get it. This team has FAR too much talent on the field and FAR too much talent in the staff to look like this...yet they do.

Yes, we did get killed.

There is no shame in losing with honor to a better team. The thing about our LSU and USC losses was that they were not losing with honor, we got KTFO!

I would venture to say that the difference between losing with honor and getting KTFO is not the opposing team, it's the mistakes we made, in both games.

Fox Sports website had us ranked no. 1 and said "No one has more NFL talent" than tOSU. This season so far shows that it takes more than a random shuffle of excellent talent to make a great winning team. Obviously not all the lessons of the LSU game have been learnt!

Once we figure out what it is that it is hurting us so bad, we will prove to all the Buckeye-haters (and boy aren't they just coming out of the woodwork now!) that we are a top team, that we can hang with USC and the SEC, and that we win or lose with honor.

Sorry for the long first post, and BEAT M*CH*G*N!!!

Yes, we kept the stats close in the first half against USC. We also made the stats look decent for the whole game against LSU.

We had our asses handed to us physically on the field by both.

What I think I saw yesterday: Because of Pryor the defense no longer packed the line of scrimmage. Because the DBs had to be aware of the scramble there was some separation between the DBs and our WRs. Because the line of scrimmage wasn't jammed our RBs got some yards.

2. Playing four DEs and no DTs seemed to finally get some helmets on the ball carrier.

3. Tackling remains an issue.

4, Hawk, Schlegel and Carpenter spoiled us.

5. Dick Wad did not sleep well last night, tossing, turning and whining,"He should be my quarterback. I found him. He shold be mine."

Yep, like it or not, 35-3 means you got killed. It's all about the scoreboard.

Hopefully, we'll use the lessons learned to be better the rest of the season.

35-3 and you want a moral victory? Well glad you can look at the bright side of even a train wreck :)
It always amazes me how much of an advantage SEC speed is. They can go about their day of chanting "S-E-C" at the JV Florida - Mississippi State badminton game and still make it home in time to troll on an Ohio State message board.
