Diet-Fitness-General Wellness Your Thoughts?

Well, crossfit was fun while it lasted. My shoulder's been bothering me since June (had two steroid shots) and now I'm stuck doing physical therapy for the next few weeks for an impingement. :(
Get well soon.

I'm digging the DDP Yoga, as I have a lot of a lot of aches and pains. At 38, core strength and flexibility are way more important to me than benches and squats. Toss in some men's league ball and I'm good.

Probiotics, anyone use them or know anything about them? I have been doing some reading on them and foods that you can naturally get them from. I have some acid reflux issues that get bad from time to time and I am trying to change my diet around to add in some natural ways to help with calming the stomach acid.

I'm not sure probiotics are used for what you need them to do.

I'd see a doctor and get some medical management if you haven't already.

I think diet is a big part of the issue and I have been monitoring what I eat and trying to determine what are common items when I get a bad episode. I understand that the probiotic foods like yogurt and interestingly sourdough bread can help with the reduction of gas and acid in the stomach. Can't get into the freaking doctor until February.

There are 10 times more bacteria cells in your body than human cells. Probiotics are healthy bacteria that help restore a healthy balance in your gut, especially after a course of antibiotics, antifungal medicine, or stress.

I know people who have found it very helpful in combatting reflux or bloating. There are lots of terrible cheap products on the shelves in the US. Only buy live products that have been kept refrigerated for the entire cold chain. A bit more expensive but a three-day course does wonders for the way you feel.

I looked into this a few years ago and Natren were the only brand willing to guarantee the cold chain. I bought online and they shipped quickly.

Cider vinegar? It seems counter-intuitive, but I've found it works for me.

Not just yogurt, but all fermented foods are a plus -- a necessity really. Sauerkraut, yogurt, kimchi, pickles ... you should work them into your diet. The other category is polyphenols, such as red wine, dark chocolate (like the 90% stuff or darker), green tea, and berries. Biggest change I made to my diet after winding up in the ER with acid reflux was making my go to snack organic full fat yogurt with some fresh blueberries piled in there, and (mostly) swearing off the commercial candies and milk chocolate and buying Lindt 90% dark for when I want a treat. Pistachios and almonds are also good.

The other thing is to get dirty. Lay off the anti-bacterial everything and don't fret that a little under-cooked, runny egg white must be carrying salmonella and will kill you instantly if you eat it. Good lord I have a hell of time convincing my wife of this one. Contrary to her warning, eating unwashed apples or cherries off of trees and eating carrots, spring onions, and lettuce pulled right out of the garden has not killed me.
