Kevin, I turned your rep off to save all of us the headache. Whether it is in the rep you are receiving or the rep messages you are leaving, there is obviously an issue. Therefore, we will use the tools we have to avoid such problems in the future.

It was basically all high-rep veterans who submerged me on the pot issue, and I'd estimate that only about a third of my incoming dings are actually signed (which explains why I only sign some of my own)
And I don't mean to generalize about all mods, since some are simply concerned with running a great site (and it is great despite my criticism), but with the power they do wield on this site they should really be above the rep fray. We're all human, so let's not think they're any less likely to get petty and personal when it's that time of the month or whatever.

Sorry, but I turned it back on, because it's more of a headache for me--but I've got a high pain threshold :wink2: I don't see why it's so hard for people to just ignore a post--I'm not forcing anyone to read anything I write, especially when it's hidden in this obscure forum...

Its fine. Keep it on. I just wanted to make sure all of the possible solutions have been exhausted. I'm sure you do realize by now though, your next "issue" concerning rep will result in a vacation. Not a threat, just a friendly reminder from one patron of Denney Hall to another.

Just think of it as a toy: it's nice at first, but after a while you forget all about it.

Forget about the dings. If you disagree with someone and want to argue in a thread, then do so. As long as you're being civil and arguing your side, most won't ding you.

Make a good post and you'll get some positive rep by someone.

Some of the best threads here( offseason that is) are when people argue. Or any thread that Mili and Tibor are fighting on.

I really don't understand what I've done here to risk a reprimand--this is a pre-existing thread about dings/rep, and I weighed in with my own critical opinion. I was only provoked to do so because of a lengthy "discussion" with LJB that started because he couldn't tolerate my single negative ding, which I gave completely sincerely and with explanation. He was the first one to go negative on a personal level, which makes me think him unfit for the position, and think less of the site's policies.

(But since some kind soul decided to help the situation by re-greening me, I'll let bygones go under the bridge and make an effort to be good :cool: )


Grad, I must be missing something--what is the Denney Hall reference?

You've already been banned once for rep problems. You have continued with the drama concerning rep. It will stop. You can handle issues in PMs but the rep BS is not going to be a constant theme that bleeds into outside threads. Everyone has had their say concerning the system...its time to let it go. If you ever have rep problems, PM one of us instead of going on some crusade against the evils of the message board. You are simplifying this issue as a one thread instance when in fact, we have had this problem numerous times.

Denney Hall...the English building at tOSU? I thought you were a Literature grad...

Actually, I was banned before due to a personal conflict with Mili concerning his treatment of newbies (when I was pretty new myself), but that's all ancient history IMO. And really, rep has never been an issue for me until I was blazed for my weed posts; my previous issues with mods have been their occasionally over-bureaucratic concern for proper post placement and single-thread discussions, but I'm making my peace with that as well...


You're right, I was indeed an OSU English grad, though it's been awhile since I've been in old Denney: I think I was trying to forget that dingy old building :wink2:

It never ceases to amaze me how folks who whine about the rep system when they get nuked will turn around and ding back (with little or no effect) or go run to their "rep buddies" for some support. And some get their panties in suck a knot they go postal at me in a PM. Wow, I'm such the "internet bully" because I call 'em like I see 'em and I happen to have a significant effect on rep levels. :roll1:

One thing to chew on, lvbuckeye, KevinBuck, and other folks who complain...how do you think I got to have so many rep points in the first place? Evidentally more than a few folks think I bring a little something to this site by being a straight-shooter, and a ton of my rep points have been from others propping me for blasting whiners like you. Wedgewood Pizza is the bomb. When I was back in A-Town for three days n 2002, I ate there twice. I've had pizza in NYC and in six different countries and none beats Wedgewood.

I'm perfectly willing to accept a ding based on the content of my posts (the ding itself is meant to either approve/disapprove of a specific post): I just hate when they are in retaliation for honest disapproval, or when they are otherwise personal in nature.

don't even try to act like you're above this... i did not pick this fight, YOU did... YOU are the one who bombed me with the message "why the fuck did you ding me?" so don't try to act like you're better than that... YOU are the one who casually nuked me for a rep that i gave SOMEONE ELSE, and then flippantly signed it "internet bully."(yeah, that's what i called you, prove me wrong.) so don't give that pretentious bullshit, because i won't buy it. i'll fight it forever... you like to push people around, and i for one, will not be pushed... and PLEASE, for the love of all that is good, don't try to insult me... you don't have the intellect for seriously scathing wit...
