Division I Graduation Rates

AHH #2 on this list and number 1 in the last athletic cup standings! ND gets ripped for it's apparent high academic standards in football and many have challenged that thought, but it looks as though in the end it is true.

Stanford gets alot of crap from the big basketball and football schools but man they really do the best job of academics, athletics year in year out.

BN had a thread about ND's academic recruiting standards so can someone please post the graduation rates on that thread over there......

Tabular version of my earlier post

Obviously I'm ignoring the incoming freshman, and there will be a couple other casualties no one can predict now. But things are lookng good for Tressel's recruits.

I was under the impression guilford was attempting to come back, so he may not be a casualty. I also dont see how Morris or bauserman would count as casualties for us, did either of them ever enroll? also, you really think pitcock and youboty are at all likely to leave early? Finally, why is B underwood a LIKELY casualty? because he MIGHT transfer out with his brother?(or did i miss something?)

Lack of Forward Progress: Former running back/defensive back Ira Guilford has been out of the football program since having a run in with the law last fall. According to Tressel, there is little chance that he will return to the Buckeyes. "I'm not sure that there's a chance, because of the amount of hours you need to move toward progressing to your degree," Tressel said.

"I think it's doubtful."
First of all, this is my opinion. You can make a spread of your own if you deem it necessary.

I am open to feedback, as I know very little about some of the guys like bauserman. I guess in that case I applied recruiting casulties to this errantly. I'll fix that portion of the table.

I don't think Pitcock or Youboty are going to leave early, but both definitely are capable of doing so. If Youboty and Pitcock continue their current dominance, both are first or second round draft picks. And you never know if a good kid who wants to stay at tOSU has to go pro to help support his family (ala Holmes).

Brandon Underwood was put in there from the general trend I have seen with both him and EJ. I have no proof that they won't be there, I was just trying to gauge who I felt would be a decent possibility to be a casualty.

Gosh, I didn't realize that would be such an exercise. Thanks BFS! Chiclets for you!

The analysis looks pretty airtight and I suppose there is a bit of wiggle-room upward, if we give remember that some Vrabels may be on this team and graduate a few years later by coming back during the offseason quarters.

It's a good performance by OSU to turn out top 20 graduation rates!

Based on the sortable chart on BP

Best possible:
Sr - 16 of 23 ()
Jr - 16 of 18 (Holmes is gone)
So - 17 of 21 ()
Fr - 15 of 15 ()
-------------
64 of 77

83.12 = 83%

Worst possible:
Sr - 16 of 23 (EJ)
Jr - 14 of 18 (Holm, Pit, Youb)
So - 16 of 21 (Ginn)
Fr - 13 of 15 (Underwood, Dukes)
-------------
59 of 77

76.62 = 77%
Damn -- good work separating the truth from the numbers there BfromS!

Does indeed look like Tressel's beneficial influence on Buckeye football proves you can have your cake (2002 NC, 3 wins vs sCUM, 3 winning years in a row in Bowl games) and eat it too, 83%<-->77% prospective grad rate. Those are top 10 stats coming down the pike.

If anyone, media, family bar-room acquaintances, EVER questions why we and the Athletic Directorship at tOSU thinks so highly of JT all we have to do is trot out these stats.

i dont understand how they said that ginn only has one of more year of eligibilty left when he'll only be a sophmore. he has to come back for his junior year because you have to wait 3 years out of high school. maybe i'm just not getting something. can someone answer my question?

Not a knock, but who is this "they" you are asking about? Ginn Jr.'s status is clearly a Sophomore in '06. It stands to reason though that he is going to at least look at the NFL after his Jr. year. So hence you have to put him into the equation for graduation rates as currently computed. If he stays -- great for the Buckeyes. If he goes early to to the NFL after his Jr. year -- sad for the Buckeyes, good for Ginn Jr. on a career /athletic basis.

Frankly though, I'm counting on Ginn Sr. to whisper in Jr.'s ears pearls of wisdom about staying the course in school and getting that degree certificate.
