He better get used to it because unfortunately that's how it is at Ohio St. I think our opponents have been called for holding maybe 3 times in the last 2 years.

I fully realize that holding is part of the game. But like I said I've never seen it so BLATANT & with two official's watching!! (At high school level).
I am aware that holding is more accepted at each level and NFL linemen have mastered the techniques "like a fine art".

My post was said in jest. As a Buckeye fan, I feel your pain. It's frustrating seeing our players tackled to the ground and having it rarely called for holding.

Class 5A roundup :: REGIONAL SPORTS :: High School Sports :: Illinois :: Indiana :: Sun-Times News Group

Montini 14, Sycamore 3

Dex Jones busted off a 90-yard run with 4:59 to play as Montini (9-1) held off a stout Sycamore 14-3.

"There was a wide-open hole because the offensive line blocked it as best as it could be done," said Jones, who had 207 yards on 15 carries.

Jones? 40- yard run in the second quarter set up a five-yard touchdown pass from Tom DiCristina to Brian Zirko. Sycamore (5-5), which got a 25-yard field goal from Josh Howells, got a strong performance from quarterback Nick Anderson, who was 22-of-38 for 236 yards.

My understanding is that if you have them on the inside of their breastplate, it's okay. Right? I'm just trying to understand the rules.

From personal experience that is the best way to hold (without getting caught) because no one can see it if you are right up against the defensive lineman and holding them by the chest plate, but if they get away from you (like in those pictures) and you still hold on it should be called because it becomes obvious that you are holding them.

As others have said, either refs just don't call holding as much anymore, or some teams get a little "competitive edge" against badass lineman like Gholston and The Gladiator.

Senior highlights are very impressive. The one play that blew me away is at the 1:30 mark where he stays home on the reverse, gets great position on the blocker, and makes the play. Can't wait to see all of his senior highlights. I would be surprised ifhe didn't get moved up in Rivals rankings after he turns his film into them.

I know you were kinda joking, OB, but if one just focuses on big Vern for a few plays in a row, I promise you'll see his jersey stretched and pulled all over the place. Garrett will have this problem too at tOSU - its just a symptom of playing on a DLine that is much more athletic than the opposition

As long as it isn't from the back or the side, the OL typically won't be called and can essentially grab all they want. Official rule states otherwise, but 55 isn't really the speed limit either.
