DT Garrett "The Gladiator" Goebel (official thread)

Just sickening...

Could not have said it any better!! In the past month or so there has been alot of media attention about Steven Filer, who is an awesome player and deserving of all recognition he has received. I thought (90% probability) Filer would win this AND was deserving of this honor.

However....barf...excuse me...barf...to see this award go to Cwynar was a total joke given the fact that Goebel was also a "finalist". Goebel's 2007 season "HIGHLIGHTS" have been sent out which includes at least (6) six or more plays of Goebel dominating Cwynar (especially in playoff game)!! As soon as I see this put on any website(s) I will post the "link".

Recently Goebel has been interviewed by a few sports writers who have asked Garrett how he felt he performed vs. Cwynar....Given Goebel's character & unusally high HUMILITY, Garrett answered these questions by replying "Cwynar had a few good plays against me, and I had a few good plays against him"***......Yet after you see his season highlights you will understand what a "understatement" this was. Especially in their last meeting in playoffs in which Cwynar played both ways most of the game (In first meeting Cwynar did not play defense after 1st quarter) it was very OBVIOUS which player was superior. I will bet that Cwynar's 2007 HIGHLIGHTS will either feature maybe one play vs. Garrett (or have ZERO).

But as I told Garrett, his AWARD is "attending OSU & having an opportunity to play against the BEST + a chance of playing for a National Championship!!!

Maybe it's just me, but Garrett doesn't seem like the kinda kid who gives a crap about this stuff. So I doubt it matters much to him, and it sure doesn't matter to us since we're just thrilled to have him as part of the Buckeye family.

You are correct as far as Garrett's concern for individual awards. Yet being required to drive 5+ hours to/from Champaign, going thru the "hoopla" at halftime out at midfield of Memorial Stadium to congratulate an opponent which you clearly proved was inferior by comparison (Shown on two game films from 07 season meetings) HAD TO BE A SLAP IN THE FACE***.....even to a VERY HUMBLE athlete like Garrett.

Garrett is very excited to join the Buckeye family!! I have never seen Garrett as "pumped" about an opportunity which awaits him, EVER!!!!

***Prior to this award Cwynar had contacted Garrett(via the internet) "trash talking" about the fact that Garrett's season was over but Cwynar would play for a state title....Garrett was shocked assuming Cwynar had more "class" than this.....Garrett replied "Good luck at Notre Dame" then blocked anymore nonsense from Cwynar on his P.C.

I would envy Mr. Cwynar myself too. He is in a better situation than Garrett. Let's see....c-WHINER will have the "privilege" to beat Navy AT LEAST once during the course of next 3-4 years.........and he gets to be a teammate to "LIMO" Clausen, who has already won the Heisman even BEFORE he set his foot on campus....WOW

Garrett has nothing on him, man......Mr. Goebel is stuck with one of the top programs, CONSISTENTLY, in the nation and will have the chance to contend for Big Ten Champ, BCS Bowl games, personal awards and, not to mention, National Champ.

What a grummy deal.

If I was Garrett, I would shut up and weep.

Goebel created so much space at the line for Montini's backs that every Big Ten school plus West Virginia, Notre Dame, Arizona, Florida State, Miami, Tennessee and Oklahoma State made him an offer.

"Ohio State was in on me early, the third school to offer a scholarship," he said. "I like the facilities, and I like coach (Jim) Tressel. Plus, you have a chance to play for a national title every year."

Goebel went head-to-head with Cwynar twice this season. Montini won during the regular season, but Marian Central prevailed in the playoffs.

"I was looking forward to that all year long," Goebel said. "It was tough?two top players going at each other the whole game. I got a couple plays on him and he got a couple on me.

"Maybe we'll meet one day again on a college field."

On a college field? No. They are scared to schedule us and they will not see the success we will have during the regular season to have a chance at being invited the Bowl games we are invited. Although, I think Garrett is fine with that.

Notre Ame doesn't have to do as much as other teams to get to the same bowls. It happened before, and it can happen again.

Quite true, but unless they change the rules again (would not suprise me) you still need a winning record (or is it six wins) to be bowl eligible. That is quite an uphill battle for Ntre ame.

Are you forgetting that Notre Dame played in BCS bowls in 2006 and 2007?

Not at all, I think I remember one was against a team I follow and the other against a team whose coach is suddenly of interest to said team:biggrin:

Really was just being sophomoric in response to Cwynars (sp) ribbing of the Gladiator, and the Gladiators humble response.
