DT Luke Fickell (HC Wisconsin Badgers)

Heard an interview with Coach Fick, and he said, "I don't have anything to do with the Offense." What a lame answer. As the CEO of the football Bucks, he has oversight responsibilities for both of the O and D, plus the Special Teams (and popcorn sales as well ?).......the only worse answer I ever heard was Coop's, "I coach coaches" which is to say, I never talk to a kid, only their position coaches do......

He's young, and asked to grow up in a hurry. He's doing that, but I'm not sure his learning curve is being accomplished as quickly as the Buckeye fan's Intollerence curve is going downward. They may have already intersected, which means Fick's toast....we'll see.

I'm not certain he has been given the decision making authority to act as the "CEO of the football bucks". If he has then I agree with you. If he hasn't your statement is holding someone accountable for that which they have no control and therefore an inappropriate comment (although this does unjustly occur in the real world).

All I can ask is that coach Fick does the best he can with the authority he has.

If Meyer does become the next coach I think Vrabel is definitely retained. Meyer's friendship with Belichick is pretty well documented and Belichick has been pretty forthcoming on how well he thinks Vrabel will do as a coach.

If you can get Urban then go for it. If not give Fickell a contract. I do not understand how you can judge him this year. Everything you read is if there is NCAA penalties Urban does not want it. Fickell came in and for the most part done reasonably well. The expectations that you can bring a freshman qb and have instant success is a joke. Look at Florida how are they doing without their number 1 QB. I believe when Urban left they loss 5 games and did not have near the mess Fickell is up against. I really pray he beats Wisconsin and can get some respect back. I am almost at a point that hopes he leaves so he can have these same people out wanting him back. We are young and only going to get better and deserve at least one more year without the distractions and ability to hire some of his coaches.

I really hope Luke stays, although that is unlikely. Luke will be offered a HC position somewhere else. I think any coach would be happy to have Fickell on staff, but I don't know about Meyer. I expect some people to be held over, because there are some great coaches on this staff.

Meyer though, is a micro manager. He will want total control and things done his way. Tressel ran things a COMPLETELY different way then Meyer would. Meyer is known to be pretty hard on assistant coaches.

Now if Meyer isn't hired it would probably be a different story. Because a lot of coaches would have a hard time sending some of the defense coaches packing. Heacock though, is likely to retire.

Coach Fickell seems to be growing more comfortable in his pressers. He has somewhat lost that deer in the headlights look and seems to be a bit more forthright. He's going to be a great HC some day..... I really believe that. I'm just not sure it's his time yet. If he can get the Bucks to a New Years Day Bowl then I think you have to bring him back, just so long as he dumps Bollman.

I think that if Luke is not asked to stay vis-a-vis a new HC, it will be a good thing for his career.

Luke does seem to be getting better, but its also unfair to make him deal with such a large program with almost no control over all activities. He needs to cultivate a good HC career just like what is being done with Darrell Hazell at Kent State.

Having said that, I think it'd be a great opportunity for Luke, so he could (eventually) come back to Ohio State as a ready-for-prime-time HC later on - assuming we get someone that is likely shorter term like Urban (I really don't see him staying for more than 8 years - plenty of time for Luke to become the next big thing in CFB).

Agreed. I've been hard on coach Fickell, but he is growing as a HC and this team is growing with him. If this continues....how can you deny the guy an opportunity long term?

You don't...unless someone like Urban Meyer is willing to come on board. Why? Because the question then becomes how do you turn down Urban Meyer.

Feel good for LF though. Buckeye through and through...

Signature win tonight. Congrats, Coach Fickell!

The go-for-it call on 4th and 1 early in the third quarter was a proper decision (even if they didn't score), but its success ended up being a piece that was needed for the overall win.

The team stayed close in the first half, made some plays in the running game and special teams to get a lead in the third quarter, and then had enough to rally for the win after Wiscy shocked them with 2 quick TDs late in the 4th.

A solid game for Luke as a head coach.

Because Meyer's proven he doesn't stick around. Luke, if successful, would be at tOSU for thirty years. How do you turn THAT down?
