DT Luke Fickell (HC Wisconsin Badgers)

If the rumors are True and Urban is brought on and Fickell is the Asst Head Coach and knowing how Urban paid his assitants a salary increase that would be huge. Urban and Fickell together would be unstoppable and also put Fickell at his mid 40's to take the HC Job and learn more about Offense. Fingers crossed

If osu is actively pursuing Urban right now during the season, then that is doing Fickell wrong IMO........He deserves more respect than that.
He knows what's going on and I'm sure he understands the reasoning behind it. Especially with the way the team has been performing the past few weeks. If this team was in line for a Conference championship game spot, I'd probably aggree with you. But, they're not. And it's not like this is being carried out in the public eye. Right now, it's all second hand info. It's not even being reported on the major sports websites.

When you have a chance to land a coach like Urban Meyer, you do everything possible to get him locked up as soon as possible. Given the way the last two UM searches have gone, you should know that. With recruiting the way it is today, you need to get your plan in place as soon as possible to give your coach the opportunity to hit the trail.

The BTN feature on Luke in their 'Step Into My Office' series will be shown again tonight.

After the tOSU basketball game, which is scheduled to finish at 11 pm ET, they will first show the Big Ten Icons piece on Woody Hayes, followed immediately by Step Into my Office.

Those using a DVR should record the BTN Football report afterwards as well, in the event that the hoops game delays both of the other shows.

Thanks for the info BB. Have them all set to tape.

Then fire Fickell now and save him the embarrassment of having a new coach hired before he's even had a chance to finish the season strong. It's not like Urban Meyer is coaching another team right now, and everyone knows he favors osu and has already turned down other schools.

He doesn't have a contract past this year. He know what's going on. If a university does not have a coach under contract for the following year, they have every right to be conducting a search.

If Urban is the path they are going, then let Fickell finish out the year. It is not like Ohio State is worried that Urban will take another job. If Urban is going to be the next head coach, the OSU people will have already have talked to the Urban people letting him know that he is going to be hired.

Just feel bad for Fick, that's all. Oh well.

IF it this all comes to fruition, what does Fick do now? You would think it would be a step backwards to take his old job. Does he swallow that pill and see if Urban offers him a job, or does he go out and try and catch on somewhere else.

Hope it all works out for him, in the end.

Are coaches salaries up to the university and not the head coach? Just because Urban paid his coaches well down at Florida does not mean that Ohio State will pay them better than they are making now.

I think everybody does, but he knows what he was up against. He was, essentially, barring a miracle season, a lame-duck coach from the start...and I'm sure he knew/knows that. Right now there's a lot a speculation that he would likely remain on the defensive staff. Either way, he'll get another chance, somehere.

I am still thinking he takes the State Penn job.

I wouldn't say that. There's people that speculate that the Texas job could open up after the season and that would be serious competition. It's in their best interest to get an agreement in principle in place before a bidding war commences.

I think it would be wrong to publicly court UM, much less announce his hiring. That being said, I think it's pretty obvious that LF is not ready and will not be retained. As long as Ohio State does everything possible to not rub LF's face in the talks, we need to go after UM now--particularly with the Ped State and (possibly) Texas jobs opening up also. Lock Urban Meyer down now, and take care of LF on the back end.

That is what I was saying with the OSU people talking with the Urban people right now. I did not think about the Texas job. I am sure if Texas has talked with Urban, then Urban could use that and contact Ohio State about his intentions of coaching Ohio State.
