Its a matter of the coaches have access to more information than we do.

Just playing devil's advocate here b/c I agree with pretty much everything you said... but how much more do they really know?
Somebody earlier stated that Urban probably knows for sure whether he hit somebody with a bottle, but I doubt that.

Legally, what are the police permitted to tell 3rd parties? I would think they wouldn't be permitted to say much beyond what's public record... and I'm not sure it's in their interest and duty to give any additional information to a sympathetic party ... let alone considering the privacy rights of an alleged perpetrator.
Obviously this happens some places (FSU), but I think that's the exception -- even in "big football" towns.

So if they get little more than us from the Police... that just leaves the suspect themselves. And presumably they're going to downplay anything they can.
