Emory Jones (QB Florida, transfer to Arizona St., transfer to Cincinnati)

As he should.

Hearing some FSU smoke now btw....what a freaking circus.
Urban has done a pretty good job of keeping the circus kids out of the locker room. It’s about grinding out hard work and brotherhood. Hate to loose a talent like that but in the end it’s not worth it. This is why it fell apart at Florida, and also why Saban has been able to keep his run going so freaking long.

I may be in the minority in thinking missing Jones doesn't mean much. The talent and weapons that have been collected along the line, WR and RB is getting to an elite point that OSU doesn't need their QB to make all the plays as much as they need him to get the ball to players in positions to win and don't make dumb decisions. Baldwin checks those boxes.

Jones spoke with the UF coaching staff for several hours last night. Jones really likes Taggart and the UF staff could sense it was trending towards FSU. After spending several hours on the phone with UF, FSU began sweating and thought they lost him.

Jones called the FSU staff around 7am this morning, and now FSU feels like they will get his pledge.

One thing is for sure, and I'm just stating the obvious....OSU is no longer in the picture. Strictly a FSU/UF battle. I personally hope he ends up at FSU. Think it'd be fun to watch him in a Taggart system....

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it a "dead period" right now? Are coaches allowed to contact recruits right now?

Dead periods just mean coaches can't meet face to face with a player. They also cannot evaluate the player in a "live setting". Telephone contact is permitted.

From the NCAA:

What is a dead period?
During a dead period a college coach may not have face-to-face contact with college-bound student-athletes or their parents, and may not watch student-athletes compete or visit their high schools. Coaches may write and telephone student-athletes or their parents during a dead period.

This whole saga is beyond weird. It appears that bama, Auburn and OSU have all walked away from the kid.

Intangibles you look for in a QB: Leadership. Decision making.

Sure, choosing a college is a big decision, but it certainly isn't unique, and it's not like Jones was a late bloomer that was flooded with late FBS/P5 offers during his senior year. This decision should have been made seven or eight months ago.

i for one, don't fault Emory. And I think the coaching staff moved on quite a while ago....and it was basically mutual.

It's one thing for a 17 year old to view our crowded QB room a year ago, and then revisit that decision closer to signing day and get cold feet. I personally think it'd be a mistake for him to want to walk into the SEC and start as a true Freshman, in a system that will force him to take too many hits. He'd be significanrly better off going to a program like FSU or Alabama and getting a chance to develop and learn the system.

I would've loved him at tOSU....think he and Wilson/Day could've really lit up the scoreboard. But it's a tough sell when you've got Haskins and Martell on deck.

Plus when he committed we didn’t know if J.T. was going to stick around this year. Now we are looking at probably 2 years of Haskins instead of 1 before he has a chance to compete. Then if Tate wins he might not get a start until rs sr year.
