which makes me wonder if they will make cheap glasses, ie $5-10-20 or whatever. putting $150 on most kids, even 10 or so, is pretty much a crazy idea...

They are shutter glasses and I am sure the production costs are still high. They will come down over time. Though I don't think $10 is anywhere in the near future for shutter glasses.

understood, but it seems to me that to make it a reasonable family investment you need cheaper, even if they are inferior, glasses. i cant see dropping $450 for three kids to watch some disney channel 3d spectacle. (you and i both know youll push these sets using sports to get the 18-34 demo and kiddo shows to beg the you know what out of mom/dad).

I was one of the relatively few people who went to go see OSU-USC in 3D at Polaris Rave theater. It is definitely different. The cameras they used were not HD, so that was kind of a negative. Also, in order to get a good 3D effect, they use very low camera angles, lots of sideline stuff, etc. It doesn't use the standard "B-Deck" shot, so that's fun. On the upside, it does feel a lot more like watching a game live, and though I'm not sure that you get a whole lot more out of the experience, it's "better enough" and a little more immersive, though It's not like the football comes spiraling into your lap or anything. As long as the network is part of a cable plan and not pay-per-view, I'd watch games in 3D if they upgrade to HD cameras. I can see it taking off and becoming pretty popular.

I went to see the Oklahoma-Florida BCS title game in 3D. I thought the cameras had pretty good definition. It was a lot of low angle stuff like you said and it was a bit difficult to follow live because they wouldn't always use the same camera for every play, had some amazing replays though)

It was one of those things that I'd use to watch teams other then Ohio State play just because of some of the angles making the game hard to watch, maybe DVR the the tOSU game to watch it afterwards in 3D. Definitely cool though for watching neutral games.

Crutchfield.com has a deal going with their Samsung 3D sets right now where you get 4 free sets of glasses, a 3D Monsters Vs Aliens movie, and a 3D Blu-ray player for free. I got a 50" with all of that for $1800.
