Everett Golson (official thread)

Heard that Notre Dame told him he couldn't go to any school on their schedule - I thought any one who graduated and still had eligibility left could go anywhere. What gives? (or is this another case of the special status accords grated to South Bend?)

A graduate transfer waiver requires a letter from the departed school stating the athlete has one year of eligibility remaining and must disclose the athlete's status and standing with that team.

Notre Dame cannot tell Golson where he can and can't play, but they could misplace the waiver, break their fax machine, or accidentally elaborate in detail his prior academic misconduct.

Golson did himself no favors and doesn't have much leverage. Welcome to the real world, kid.

Yeah, I don't think Golson was a cancer in any way. The team did respond well to Malik once he was inserted into the lineup at the end of the year, but I think that's because a lot of those players on the field were part of his class and he helped convince some to come to ND. Zaire is a more vocal leader, Golson has always seemed more introverted.
To be honest, I think Everett could wind up doing very well for a team next year. Other than FSU, a lot of teams he's looking at aren't going to throw the ball as much so that would take a bit of the pressure off the QB if he can rely on the ground game more. If he learns to tuck the ball instead of holding it out when he runs he could be pretty successful at a new stop.

Re: A week ago Golson made his intent to transfer known to Notre Dame and head coach Brian Kelly (who must have been surprised if his public statements hold water). The decision to transfer was not at all unexpected. As a graduate transfer, it was expected Golson would be eligible to transfer anywhere in the country and play this fall. A few days later it was reported Notre Dame would block Golson from transferring to any school appearing on the 2015 schedule for the Irish, seemingly throwing cold water on any thought of Golson landing at Texas (Notre Dame’s season-opening opponent). Big Ten schools were also thought to be off the table. However, our friend Keith Arnold reports via Inside the Irish that Notre Dame Athletics Director Jack Swarbrick was quick to deny any suggestion of Notre Dame blocking a transfer.

Would seem Jimbo is breaking some rules even discussing a potential transfer let alone being a moron saying he's trying to make a deal lol

We just learned, thanks to TSUN, that talking about a player before he is signed is only a minor violation. No harm done...

Now, that said, I'd really like to know what's involved in the negotiations. Free crab legs? More?
