FB/LB Adam Homan (official thread)

Kid is a top notch player in a great program at Coldwater and can play potentially LB or FB (where I project him) and gets one of the first 10 offers. I am surprised he got one so early but he is OSU material.

ya that is really a great program and well coached. He could be a college coach in a sec . I only watched them play once and Homan didnt' stand out to me but, the staff knows how to pick them.

Not taking anything away from the team that Ross played for at Coldwater, but in most of the games he played in, he was clearly the best player on both the offense and the defense. If you take Ross off that championship team, I don't see Coldwater going that far in the playoffs, if they even make it. This team that Adam is on is well balanced. There are no superstars, they are all really good athletes. What I'm trying to say is Adam isn't needed near as much as Ross was when he played. Adam is Ohio State material. His work ethic, from what I'm told, is as good as Ross's and he too is strong as an ox. You know the scary thing about Coldwater is out of the 19 players listed as playing in that state championship game, 12 of them are coming back. Most of these are the same playmakers you watched with the only exception being Ryan Geier, who unfortunately is a senior.

grad, at this stage, do you feel that Adam is projected to be a LB or a FB?

Well, there is a need for the FB, but it is waaay too early to lock that one in...especially for a kid who was a part-time offensive player. I would have to think this is a defensive recruit with the usual versatility JT likes.

I'm not going to say anymore in keeping with the rules of the forum. I won't be back in this thread, though. My point is that there are other players on the board who have shown more and who have more potential. The staff is getting a little carried away with this idea of offering kids who play on elite and/or championship HS teams. It is a logical error in division: just because the team is good, it doesn't mean that the player is good. Let's not forget that a lot of Ohio's best players (e.g. Glenville and Brookhaven) went up against subpar HS competition.

You aren't the only person I have heard say this...legacy recruit, program recruit, etc. I honestly think there is a valid point in there or at least enough evidence to give a reasonable appearance of such. However, for every Glenville kid offered...there are dozens more that would die to have that offer and never see it. There are the legacy kids who never get them...Mike Hartline is a recent example.

What I do know is that Adam Homan has a few things working against him in the limited eye of the internet recruiting world. The most glaring is that he is Ross Homan's brother...if Ross would have stayed injury-free and had the type of impact we all expected, I doubt anyone has even a tremor of a problem with this offer. However, Ross has been limited...but I really hope some folks remember just how good he is and will be. I see the same instincts in Adam...and the same tenacity when getting to the ball. I agree that he probably doesn't have the ability to play all 3 LB spots like his brother, but I can see him playing 2 of them and possibly growing into the DL. There is plenty to like about this kid and Fickell obviously likes the ceiling.

First off, Congrats to Adam for the offer!
Second, I have been very impressed with the recruiting job the bucks have done, and I firmly believe that the staff see what they are looking for in Adam. Adam is smart, and I'd go as far as saying he's tough and got a good work ethic. I believe Adam will make the most of it, if he decides that Ohio State is where he wants to go. Go get'em Adam!!

Most neutral observers called him the most impressive prospect in the state championship game, a game that included Taylor Hill, Beachum, and Zordich.

That says a lot in my eyes. I think he's every bit as worthy an offer that Zordich was. I think Homan is probably the better prospect of the two simply because I think he's a slightly better athlete.

I think this really says we're probably focusing solely on instate linebackers/fullbacks from here on out. Not to say we won't offer worthy out of state players, but it seems the coaches are content with the bevy of talent at that position instate with Homan, Klein, Morrow, Ferral, and Studlien. I'm guessing the fullcourt press won't be put on players like Petey Smith and Dorian Bell.

Wouldn't rule out Homan growing into a DE. This is obviously a Big Speed offer but I hope the staff is thinking defense because I would really like to see Marrow in this class at fullback. Either way I am a little surprised at how early Homan got his offer but the staff has seen more of him than I have and obviously they are better judges of talent than most of us ever will be. If they like him enough for an offer, then I am on board...

I've said this in threads about different recruits, but I think it is pertinent here as well. I believe that Tressel and staff do a certain amount of due diligence before making official offers. They take this due diligence very seriously and they offer less players than most comparable programs. They view these offers seriously and know that a high percentage of them will be accepted, especially in-state offers.

I feel that more than any other program, OSU's due diligence includes an in-depth look at a guy's work ethic and character. They learned from past mistakes (the class of 2003) and have found a formula that seems to be working. They have had a lot of success taking lower rated kids who work hard, love football and understand the game. They have also had a much higher retention rate and better team chemistry than in the past.

In short, I no longer look at the order that OSU offers kids in as an accurate reflection of their talent compared to other kids. Offers seem to come out earlier to guys from big programs. Guys from families that the staff knows. Guys with great academics. Character guys.

As all of this relates to Adam, I would say that just because Homan was the 4th or 5th in-state offer doesn't necessarily mean that he is the 4th best player in Ohio or that the staff views him as a top 5 talent. It may just mean that the OSU staff had completed their due diligence on him more quickly than they did on other prospects. They know his family. They know the kid. They love the work ethic that they see up close every day from his brother. They are comfortable with his level of competition and respect the Coldwater program. They like his work ethic and character and they feel he is talented enough to play here. Therefore, the offer was made.

I could not agree more...bravo to you sir!!!!

I think he might be a DE or TE, I saw him play once this year, and he didn't really jump out as a sideline to sideline LB, making plays all over. I did notice his size, however.

I have to second the comment about his size. I was at his state semi final game, and he did look big. I talked to some of the westfall players that coldwater just dominated (my future brother-in-law) and he said that Homan was a BEAST, and that he thought he was better than Ross. FWIW.

Ross and Adam were about the same size but Ross had more speed. Both are very good players and glad they both will Buckeyes. Not too many bothers get this kind of chance, how cool it must be for both them. As for position I have seen all the LB's play in the 2009 class Adam is as good as any we have picked up. I think he will play on the D side of the ball LB or DE just my thought.

We discussed it a little bit in the Rumor Mill over the last few days that Adam is expected to go public soon. Nevada confirmed the same news this morning. OSUBucks22 also received another email this morning to confirm.

Start warming those 'nanas...we initially heard late January once the 08 recruiting was finished, but it could be earlier
