Fullback Zach Boren showed off his athletic prowess when he hurdled Indiana cornerback Adrian Burks during a 15-yard pass play. | Browse and buy at OSUPhotoStore.com

Measuring Zach Boren's contributions to the Ohio State football team requires going beyond the obvious.

Yes, the fullback is a stellar lead blocker - good enough to be named the team's offensive player of the week last week.

And yes, Boren is an option in the passing game, having already matched his 2009 total with four receptions through six games (for 41 yards).

But it's the intangibles that help make Boren an invaluable member of the top-ranked Buckeyes. Things like effort, hustle and attitude.

Cornerbacks coach Taver Johnson saw Boren's attributes in a preseason practice.

"Chimdi (Chekwa) came up with an interception and ran it all the way back," Johnson said. "And Zach Boren was nowhere near Chim, but he ran his tail all the way down the field.

"That just shows a sign of toughness, and that's one thing (Boren) is. When (No.) 44 steps on the field, he brings toughness to this football team. We need it and we embrace it."

He'll become a 4 year starter and that is special. His role will keep expanding because he's so athletic. He could become a Dallas Clark kind of player in the pros.

Not sure about Dallas Clark. I think his game is more likely to translate along the lines of Lawrence Vickers - punishing blocker, threat out of the backfield.

Yeah Dallas Clark is taller and faster than him. Zach will be a solid FB in the league, hes so physical and can open up holes.

Really enjoyed watching Boren blow up Purdue's LB's on the iso out of the I yesterday. When Boom is "on", Boren is a big reason why.

Damn straight. I had a great time watching Boren play on Saturday. He was a beast.

Also, did you guys see what happened on his reception? He went through the line and made a block, but fell down. The person he blocked continued on toward TP, so he simply rolled out uncovered down the field and totally bailed out TP because he had no one else open. I doubt it was planned, but it could have been. Either way it was a great play on his part.

Maybe I'm being a little over-optimistic, but I'd like to think that the Bucks have found something to hang their hat on offensively, in terms of running the I, and letting Boren and the O-line pave the way for Herron. Thought Zach did a great job (again) on the old Iso. Woody would be proud of this fullback.

I know that he's only a soph... but I miss him already.

On Boom's TD run... they showed it from multiple angles.. one was directly from behind the run...

The hole just to the left of center opens.. PSU #70 comes up to fill the hole... Boren is leading thru that hole.. and you can literally see it in #70s eyes how he is saying "awww shit"... then Zach proceeded to just BLOW HIM UP..
