FB/LB Zach Boren (Official Thread)

Never thought I'd see those five words in a thread title. Unbelievable.
I know. I'm fairly certain that I stated in this thread that he wouldn't get an offer. I'm on a roll with that kind of prediction. As I stated elsewhere, Vegas loves me.

Welcome Zach, it's nice to think that a new Boren tradition has started.

I was skeptical when Zach got his offer. I get caught up in the glory of pulling 5-star recruits just as much as the next guy.. but when put in perspective, it is guys like Boren that tOSU football has built its identity on. The more I read and the less ignorant I become to Zach Boren, the more I like this pick up. Jim Tressel does not throw away offers.

3 years ago about this time, this kid was literally shedding tears because his older brother was leaning toward becoming a Buckeye. Now they are both here. Simply amazing what Tress has going on.

Welcome young man, you are going to be part of something special.

It really is an amazing turn of events to have both Boren brothers headed onto the squad by one path or another.

Welcome Zach - you're brother will be waiting with open arms for you I'm sure.

There is nothing wrong with being a fullback...

Agreed--Tressel and crew do not give any wasted offers. Everyone who gets one should feel pretty proud of themself--including Zach.

Zach should not feel as though being a fullback is a consolation prize, compared to LB. If Zach ends up as a 6'1" 275 lb. badarse fullback, he could even see time this fall. With all due respect, that scenario would be doubtful as an LB.

Even with the diminished role of FBs in college and pro offenses, if Zach worked to add muscle, yet increase speed and agility, he could make a pro team happy on Sundays some day. If he lives up to his reputed work ethic, he has a good shot...

Good luck--now kick some arse!!!

College football: One Boren isn't enough for OSU

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

It certainly has been a Boren eight days for Ohio State. Zach Boren, a linebacker from Pickerington Central, said yesterday that he committed to the Buckeyes' 2009 recruiting class. A little more than a week ago, his older brother, Justin, announced he was transferring from Michigan to Ohio State, where he will be eligible in 2009 after sitting out this coming season.
Taking it all in is their father, Mike. He played linebacker at Michigan for coach Bo Schembechler in the 1980s. He has taken flak from Wolverines boosters since Justin, who started 13 games last season as a sophomore at center or guard, left first-year Michigan coach Rich Rodriguez.

Top 50 football player...no doubt.

Top 50 D-1 prospect...not positive.

I like grinders don't get me wrong, Zach is my kind of football player...but I see him as limited at the next level. However, it would not shock me to be completely wrong and he ends up as a stud.

Mike Boren said this better than me...

"He's probably going to surprise a lot of people, but he's not going to surprise me," Mike Boren said. "You can't teach instinct, and he's got instinct. He's a naturally good player."
