Game Thread FIESTA BOWL: tOSU 21, Texas 24 (01-05-09)

I'm having visions of Shugarts and Adams on the edge alongside Boren et Brewster (and Mewhort) in the middle. Posey and Brown grabbing seam routes downfield. Pryor et Boom et Berry play action/ read option w/ Stoneburner in the flats. JB can't mess that up; can he?

Congratulations to your team tonight, they played very hard and really had a solid chance to win the game. I was very impressed with the improvements your team made over the past few months. This game really could have ended with either team on top, a few plays, calls, mistakes, etc. one way or the other and the result could have been flipped. The injuries that you guys suffered this game didn't help you either. But the heart that your team showed, and the desire in the game was all that you could ask for as a fan.

It was a great game, and I really like Tressel, and appreciate the respect that he gives the Texas program, and generally the way that he holds himself as opposed to a couple of other coaches yet to coach their bowl games this season. There have been 3 great games between these two huge universities and football programs in the last five years, and I have the a lot of respect for the Ohio State football team, and I think a lot of that stems from Tressel.

On the bright side for you guys is that Pryor just played in a HUGE game and showed so much brilliance for a true freshman, and the way you guys reload, I am sure that you will have some stout teams in the next couple of years.

Texas was lucky to leave the Fiesta Bowl with a victory tonight. Quan played out of his mind, and Colt battled through the best rush he has seen all year, to squeak out a victory where many pundits and Texas fans expected an easy cover and victory. I am sure it's not easy to take solace in a loss, or to claim a so-called moral victory, but if any team has that right this season, it is your Buckeyes tonight. Congrats on a solid, albeit disappointing season to some of you, and congrats for all of the great seniors that accomplished so much in their 4 years, yet have to leave with a record that is tarnished in the mind of some, and good luck for the 2009 season.
apparently I get a few beers in me and give Rep to everyone...tried to give you greenies and was told I gave out too many in the last 24...thanks for being a classy fan. Agree with your comments. Good Game.

I really don't have too much to say, I'll post some thoughts tommorrow after my hangover wears off.

Whatever that ghost was the last two years, it is gone.

The playing with heart? Yes that's gone, but if your referring to the "other" ghost, then no... no its not gone yet, at least, not for many of us.

Fine game though, hats off to Texas. Just don't let me run into anybody with a burnt orange jersey on for the next couple days....

As always... :oh:

Great game Buckeye fans. That was truly a classic and I can honestly say that was the toughest game we have had this season. I know a lot of people around the country are already beating Texas up and calling us overrated because somehow beating Ohio State isn't a quality win anymore but they are ignorant. I saw two teams leave it all out on the field tonight and I don't care what their record is, this Ohio State team is a great team. As for Pryor...he impressed the hell out of me. I admit I scoffed when I heard the Vince comparisons and I event went as far as to say that the only reason he was a 5 star instead of a high 4 star was because Vince young existed. But was I was wrong...he was a true freshman and he looked like a man out there. He made some bad throws but every true freshman does. At this point I would say he is ahead of Vince at this stage in their careers. Ohio State's future looks bright.

I also want to give kudos to Buckeyeplanet. Of the three Ohio State forums I visit this is the only one where the majority of the posts remained classy after the game and there were no sour grapes. It's always fun when these two hook up and I hope we can do it again someday (hopefully after Pryor leaves).

Let it go...the Ghost that haunted me was embarrassment. Nobody was embarrassed tonight (yesterday). National stage, top 10 team, and the Buckeyes showed up. They fought hard...and damn it they could have won, but I'll take more of these losses over any of the past two years. Losing sucks...getting embarrassed on a national stage is just brutal.

Thanks Bucks and Thanks Seniors for playing a hell of a game. You exceeded expectations, thank you!

How about we meet up next year for the NC?

And we can tie up the series, again. Deal?

Colt coming back- you guys have to be pretty good next year.

Congrats!

As a Texas fan, I can only say in massive amounts of gratitude and humility, THANK YOU Buckeyes, for yet another classic. I know you don't want to hear it and its horrible to stomach, but you guys ABSOLUTELY deserved it as much as we did. We just happened to have our offense click for our on the last drive that made the difference. It easily could have gone the other way. That's the bottom line. If you guys had won, you would have deserved it and we would have been feeling like we left some opportunities on the board.

I don't know if that makes a great game or not. I hope it does. With what we both had to play for, I feel like we both got something great out of it. Neither of us got a national title, but EACH of us got NATIONAL respect (as if we needed it), and proved that the Longhorns and Buckeyes are the CLASS of college football. I hope we both get better from this regardless.

Here's to Terrell Pryor vs. Colt McCoy for Heisman 2009!!! Buckeyes vs Longhorns for the REAL BCS championship next year!! Great game Bucks!!! Many Thanks. :oh::io:

First off, let me say this is a great post and Texas fans have been some of the classiest we have had here. You guys got a great fan base, a classy coach and a great program.

I don't think any of us should have any sour grapes. The image of tOSU was that they didn't show up for big games. Now, people can beat us down for 3 BCS bowl game losses, but can anyone say the Bucks didn't show up tonight? The kids showed up, they played hard on both sides of the ball, and it ended as Tressel said "The last team with the ball is going to win this game" and he was right.

I knew, when we scored with 2 minutes left, that there was too much time on the clock. I can't complain, it was a great game, sure I would have liked a better outcome, but this really is the type of game, that even as a fan of the losing team, you can say "That was a great football game."

Let's hope for meeting #4 next year for a Crystal football :)

That Texas no huddle attack was brilliant.

Our team was so lost and out of shape. They wanted no part of it. I don't know how the Texas o-line, all their players as a matter of fact, got together and back to the line for the next play so quickly.

Wish the Bucks would have taken a timeout as they were getting gutted.

They are well coached on how to run their system and they have a QB who knows how to run the system very well. I wonder what a team with Texas' O and Ohio State's D would look like.:yow1:

That said the D was fine when they weren't hung out to dry by the offense. That 3rd quarter 3 and out after the first long drive was the difference in the game. They shut them down when the O gave them a breather. They responded brilliantly in the 4th Q. D has nothing to be ashamed of.

Question for you guys. Who is that older black man who dresses up like an ohio state superhero with the hat and all? I encountered him here in Austin in 2006 and have seen his face on tv everytime I watched ohio state since then. He was a pretty nice guy when I met him.
