FIFA 12 (official thread)

Adebayor couldn't finish for me to save his life for the first half of the season. He lost his spot in the starting XI but still couldn't pick it up when he got in. Then I bought Jozy Altidore in the January transfer window, and suddenly a fire has been lit under Adebayor's ass.

I just went thru a helluva gauntlet. I played at ManU and Adebayor demanded to start. He scored four goals en route to a 5-0 win. Then just four days later I had to go on the road again for the North London derby, in a battle of the top two teams in the league. In a game that was headed for a scoreless draw, Altidore came off the bench in relief of Defoe and pulled out the winning goal in stoppage time. Two days later, I had the FA Cup final against Liverpool. By this time, my entire roster is completely gassed. I managed to go up 2-0 in the first half, but I ended up giving the two goals right back thru a combination of fatigued players and the CPU shifting into God Mode. Altidore came thru for me again though, coming on in the second period of extra time and putting the cup winning goal in the back of the net in the 117th minute.

Altidore plays better than his rating it seems. In this game at least, he can play with the ball at his feet, he has pace and he can finish with power from anywhere up to 22 yards out. With his age, his ratings should grow and he should be a huge part of my team going forward. Since Adebayor is a loaned from Man City, I can't count on him being around past this first season. I'd like to secure a transfer, but it will likely be pricey considering what his role might be. He's my highest rated sticker, but he doesn't fit my style of play quite as well as Altidore or Defoe.

His game was hurt this year when they made crosses damn near impossible. He's a big body, and he gets up there for the cross. Aside from that, he's a RS with very limited abilities.

Yeah, and even if crosses weren't limited this year, that's just not my style. In tougher games though where I have to slow down my attack, I've had some success with essentially using him like a low post player in basketball. If I get him the ball it the penalty area with his back to the goal, I can use his strength and some precision dribbling to body up a defender, make a turn on him and fire a shot. The thing is, far too often he fires it right at the damn keeper.

He's got a decent finesse shot (RB+B).

Whenever I find myself playing with Team USA I find Altidore causing most of the damage for the other team. With his pace he tends to break away and is a good finisher. A player I hope to pick up for my Ultimate Team bench.

I need to start to play other modes...I'm only playing career right now.

Speaking of which, I know you could in the past, but in career can you be asked to play for the US team? Or do they not have that as part of the game?

Oooh wee! Just picked up a SICK team on Ultimate Team on a nice budget.

Here's what my team looks like:
5-2-1-2 Default (I switch it once game starts)

GK:
Valdes (Casillas is TOO expensive.)

CB's:
Pique
Puyol
Sergio Ramos (even though he's a RB, he's better playing CB)

RB:
Dani Alves

LB:
Marcelo

CM's:
Xabi Alonso
Sergio Busquets

CF:
Robinho

ST:
Ibrahimovic
Pato

Bench:
David Luiz
another CM that I haven't purchased yet, maybe Maicon.

Ehh I've had better.

Just added Del Piero, Forlan, and Miraslav Klose, for CHEAP! I'm loving these markets right now. LOL

David Luiz was going for so cheap the other day I bought 8 of them. Earlier on in the game, he was selling for 20-23k, now he's selling for 12,500...

That's why I can never complete a cross. I thought that it was because I'm terrible.

It's probably still due to me being terrible.

No, I try at least one cross a game thinking EA actually did their job and fixed it. It all stems back from FIFA 11. Anytime a higher ranked player would play you, their crosses would be so money, they couldn't be defended. Even if you had a player covering the player in the box, no dice. So they made it incredibly weak now. You can't be sprinting, or the ball will land on top of the net. But if you don't sprint, the RB/LB will eat you alive and start a counter attack.

Oh well, I love how dynamic they've made the attack up the middle this year. SO much fun taking HUGE rips at the top of the box with Ibrahimovic. 80% it goes in or slams the crossbar (which is still pretty sweet).
