2023 FL RB Mark Fletcher II (Ohio St. decommit, Miami Signee)

This is not sour grapes at all, but I honestly was never terribly high on Fletcher...just seemed like the other initial targets really never gained any traction and we ended up with Fletcher. That may be way off from how the staff feels and he may turn out very good at the next level, but I saw this decommitment and just went "meh". Good luck wherever he ends up.

That said, '24 was already a very important class for a couple top-tier RB's, now it is even more important next cycle.

The only problem…..and it may end up not a problem……if given the choice of getting 2 good backs in consecutive years vs in the same year, I would take consecutive years so as to create a little distance

but if we get 2 backs next year who are both better thanFletcher then it might be better

Let me add that with Evan Pryor going down with an ACL, there is no guarantee that he'll bounce back fully as fast, shifty, etc as he was before his injury. Medicine has advanced geometrically from the days when that sort of injury was the end of one's athletic career, and today, it appears (Kamryn Babb - with his four ACL tears) that there can be little or no hindrance to one's performance. If he does recover fully, then we'd still need two serviceable backs in 2023 - and one or more in this recruiting class, just because. Go Bucks!

Lol, I honestly hadn’t really heard of Fletcher until he visited over the summer, and it took my buddy who’s a Miami fan to even tell me he was visiting! Because at the time, Richard Young was mainly who we spoke about, and it seemed like he was ours at the time. When we got Fletcher, I was happy, but not to the same extent as if we got Young. And honestly, Young wouldn’t get much PT next year in the OSU offense without major injuries. OSU has 3 VERY good RBs on the roster, and a RB who possibly is also VERY good, but also had a major injury. But Pryor flashed big time last year, especially in the 2nd half against Indiana. If Fletcher feels like UF is his best choice, the I hope he enjoys that decision.

‘24 is where Alford will need to work his magic. Just like how he pulled Henderson and Pryor in the same class

Miami is crushing it….and props to them. The issue is how they measure success….they’re going to get impatient, IMO.
Yeah they have a real danger of becoming Texas A &M. I think Cristobal is a better coach then Jimbo at this point but anytime your image is built on being the U and the flash that brings it can get ugly of it doesn't happen and doesn't happen quick

That's exactly what's going to happen.

They aren't going to even win their division let alone their conference. They don't have the fan support, the facilities etc to turn that turd into a winner.

I don't blame Mark for going there.. warm weather and they've absolutely handled their business with addressing the OL.

This will be very interesting to keep an eye on for 2023. Texas AM failed after buying their recruiting class and this is the second team to attempt. It'll probably end just as bad if not worse IMO but we'll see.

I could be wrong, but I think Miami is putting clauses into their NIL deals that will essentially keep the players committed for “X” amount of time otherwise it’s a breach of agreement.

Their LifeWalletSports Ruiz guy is constantly talking about how he has set up his NIL organization and that it’s the most tight collective in the NIL world.

That said, he’s got that Miami slime dripping all over him so we’ll see how long it lasts. But I give them props for this class and the portal players they’re bringing in…..like A&Mast year, they’re succeeding on the talent acquisition front…..but winning games is a different ball game. I agree Cristobal is probably better suited than Jimbo to execute now. Will be interesting to watch.

IMO Cristobal is just a more conservative Jimbo. Everyone loves Cristobal but he's never accomplished a damn thing anywhere hes been (minus scoring on the same play 3x vs Ohio State).

At least Miami is locking these kids up long term lol. Seriously though that's how it should be. Kids should be forced to actually learn what a commitment is during college. Can't just get money and then bail after 1 year that's insane.

There is never supposed to be a pay to play requirement. So long term does mean pay yo play, for the university. These contracts through NIL need to be written as at will and can be canceled at any time due to lack of social media presence, interviews, media obligations, and brand support or lack thereof. And of course, if you aren’t at the University it’s null and void.

Also, I’m super frustrated at the Raiaola recommit, this kid? Not at all. He’s a really bad beanie wells meaning, a one cut and go back with no where near the talent

Which is horse crap. If these kids are basically semi pro then they should be forced to honor their agreements or forfeit their earnings. No way anyone should be able to get paid and then just leave like that.
