Looks like we've got the second coming of Roman Abramovich at AS Monaco. Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev has already brought in Ricardo Carvalho (Can't have much left in the tank at 35), James Rodriguez, Joao Moutinho & Radamel Falco this summer. Seeing as how they just got promoted back to Ligue 1 in France, I'll temper expectations until I see it actually work out. Still curious to see a club with the spending power to be able to compete with PSG in France. Who knows if it will last though.

Funny how one season and the signing of Ibra , Lavezzi, and TS-33 changes all of that. Before they arrived, they were struggling to even make the CL.

Carlos Tevez to Juventus & Isco to Real Madrid in case you were living under a rock, or in my case, under the desert sun for the past few weeks.

Should be interesting to see what Juventus will do with Tevez & Llorente up top. Looks the finally got some lethal scorers up top & should be a team to be reckoned with in the UCL come next season with the added firepower.

2013 FIFA U-20 World Cup from Turkey is down to the final eight.

France-Uzbekistan & Uruguay-Spain square off on Saturday.
Iraq-South Korea & Ghana-Chile on Sunday.

USA got bounced in the group stage, but three of the remaining eight teams (Spain, France & Ghana) were in that same group with them.

Please god chelsea do not buy Cavani for that ungodly amount.

You can thank PSG for that. Driving up the price, even if they don't get him. Such is the ruthless tactics used in the transfer market these days. I think he would be a nice fit at Chelsea as he's a tremendous player, but that's a significant amount of cheddar to dole out for one player.

Monaco is doing a good job of driving up prices too.

That they are. It's unfortunately making it impossible for the teams right below the top tier to even be competitive. They're not able to compete in the transfer market as they can't afford it & are also losing there top players to teams who can pay them much more, which in many cases the players simply can't pass up the big pay raise.

Referee beheaded after killing player in Brazil - ESPNFC
An amateur football match in Brazil led to two deaths as a referee was beheaded by spectators after he had stabbed a player.

The shocking incidents occurred in Maranhao, Brazil, last Sunday. According to reports, referee Otavio Jordao da Silva fatally stabbed footballer Josenir dos Santos Abreu.

Dos Santos Abreu is believed to have struck the referee after questioning a decision. In retaliation, Jordao da Silva stabbed the player.

Having witnessed the incident, an outraged group of spectators turned on the referee. He was tied up, beaten, stoned and quartered. They then put his head on a stake and planted it in the middle of the pitch.

Truly stunning events. Something straight out of the middle ages & definitely not what I would ever believe could happen in Brazil of all places. If this happened in the Middle East, I wouldn't have been in the least bit surprised considering how awful some of the atrocities are that have occurred there involving this sport. Still not understanding how this sport literally brings out the worst in people.

Ghana 4-3 Chile - Extra Time

Semifinals are on Wednesday July 10th. Both games will be live on ESPNU

France - Ghana - 11:00 am EDT

Was only able to catch the end of the Ghana-Chile game as I was working all weekend, but what a game it turned out to be. Ghana ended up winning it in the last minute of added time.

Ghana's team is fun to watch. Really athletic and create a ton of scoring chances. They obliterated the US squad last week 4-1.

Totally agree. They're very attack minded & quite skilled in the final third. Going to face an equally adept team in France in Wednesday. Should be very good game.

What a match by Ghana!

I only caught the last 15 minutes of the game, but they were superb from the moment I started watching until the very end. They created seemingly endless chances & were definitely the better of the two teams in ET. Really looking forward to them playing France on Wednesday, as the French have quite a good team in Turkey too.

The match announcer said they had around 40 shots with around 20 on goal.
