Stannis! Stannis! STANNIS!

Any man that can chop a dudes fingers off, be responsible for the death of his sons, throw him in a dungeon to rot, and STILL have that dude's unquestioned loyalty is one bamf. Especially a dude as cool as the Onion Knight.

If he was good enough for Ned, he's good enough for me.

Davos Seaworth is definitely one of my favorite characters. Not afraid to speak his mind to his "king", so you have to respect the bravado.

Robb's problem all stemmed from not knowing his limitations. He put pussy on a pedestal. He alienated and eventually executed his loyal bannerman while failing to recognize his greedy, treacherous bannerman for what he was. He didn't recognize that being noble didn't count for a hill of beans in Westeros.

Tywin, on the other hand, recognized his limitations. He realized that he was nowhere near the battlefield general that Robb was and thus retreated back to KL to play the long con.

I blame the Lady Stark for most of this shit.

Everything went to hell the moment she sent Jaime Lannister away, in hopes of a trade for her daughters.

Now I'm forced to root for the House Targaryen to come and raise holy hell. And I hate the Targaryens....

My major hope for the entire series is to see a Stark back on the throne at Winterfell- my secret hope it that Jon Snow somehow lands the gig but I'm not sure how exactly that would work out.

I suppose that would mesh with the Targaryen's taking some names in the south. I actually like Daenerys better than most of the families down there so I would be happy with that resolution combined with the North back under a Stark.

Also-

Yep.

Her daughters that, as far as I could tell, she had no way of knowing were even still alive.

Trade the most valuable prisoner of war ever, severely undermining your son's fragile alliance in the process, on the faint and unverified hope that your worthless daughters can be returned to you? Yep, that's a great idea.

As I said before-

I agree, and as I grew to like (or at least empathize with) the Kingslayer more and more I liked Catelyn Stark less and less. I base that on just reading the books, though.

I thoroughly enjoy reading each persons comments, since they have not read the books. It is interesting to see how each of you wish the series to play out. It takes me back to when I was reading the books and I got to the red wedding--man I was so shocked!

Picked up ASoS from the library today, jumped around and picked up after the Red Wedding. After next week it'll be a long time before the series continues, figured I'd read about it a bit. I know there are differences and plot I've missed, but the gist is there.

Ohio State and TSUN dislike each other.

The gist is there.

I really shouldn't have watched this weeks episode before I went to bed last night. Took me an extra hour to calm down enough to go to sleep. Jon Snow is the only Stark left to pull for.

I'm not sure when I got the feeling something bad was going to happen. I know it was before the guy closed the door because when that happened I knew they were setting up a kill box.

I've never had a problem with Daenerys so she'll probably be my favorite now, but she'll either die next week or become the Mad Queen or something.

I agree that based on the stories so far that Jon is the only Stark that is currently worth rooting for to take back the North.

However, Bran is an interesting option on a non-warrior level, Rickon could turn into a badass if the series goes on long enough (they have already set up that he has a serious temper as channeled through his direwolf), and Arya is an intriguing non-traditional option as well.

Sansa is the only one that I absolutely do not want to see have anything to do with taking back Winterfell.

I think George R.R. Martin might have a bit of a problem writing strong female characters that aren't tom boys. Lady Stark and Sansa are written to be weak, flawed and unsympathetic while Arya and Brienne of Tarth are written to be strong willed and heroic- but only because they both act like boys.

Just a thought. If I was in a women's studies class I would write about that.

Oh, I guess I forgot about Danerys being a sympathetic strong willed female lead. She does have dragons, though, so that is a bit of a crutch. I guess Cercei would count as well- but she is obviously unlikeable in the extreme.
