I did see that USC coach call the TO they didn't have. I don't know the rule on that. I believe that any penalty called with time on the clock would have allowed USC to kick the FG and get OT.

I'm pretty sure college doesn't have a rule where they run time off the clock like that when the offense has a penalty in the last 30 seconds or so - I've only seen that in the NFL.

When Clock Starts​

ARTICLE 5. When the ball is free-kicked, the game clock shall be started
when the ball is touched legally in the field of play or crosses the goal line
after being touched legally by Team B in its end zone. On a scrimmage
down, the game clock shall be started when the ball is snapped legally or
on prior signal by the referee. The game clock shall not run during a try,
during an extension of a period or during an extra period (A.R. 3-2-5-I-IV).

That's on page 65 of the NCAA rulebook. ND won the game twice, then, right? When time ran out the first time, and then when Leinart took forever to snap the ball?

Gotta feel bad for the ND fans, they thought that the game was over and that the upset was complete, but in all reality they ended losing the game...

the only problem is is that his forward progress was stopped, once he got hit, he went backwards, play should have been blown right when his progress was stopped, he was inbounds when he was stopped and had the ball, then he fumbled after the play should've been over, pete carroll is lucky he didn't choose for instant replay because the call would have been overturned and he would have been ruled inbounds and the replay would have shown the clock running off

Did you just say what I thought you said? Fuck the Domers.....they blew that game. Give credit to USC, they found a way to win the game.......and made some ballsy play calls. Hats off to USC tonight, they deserve to be #1 in my book.

that rule actually applies in this case, the free kick part was just part of the rule, that is the rule on when the clock starts, there is no other rule concerning "The Clock" other than this one

I Tivo'd it to make sure, but on the play where Lienert fumbled the ball, if you watch, there was an SC coach down on the sidelines inside the 5. He was clearly outside of the 25, which is as far as they are allowed to go. That's a penalty! Oh, but wait there's more! If you watch that same coach calls for a timeout. SC had no timeout's left. That is not only a penalty, but a time run off. There was only 7 seconds put back on the clock, so obviously there should have been no time left had the penalty and run off been done as they should have been. People think the Angels got screwed, well not nearly as badly as ND just did!!!

Are you serious? What a junk post that was......... I hate USC, but they won that game tonight. Quit making excuses for the Domers, you don't want them to become a force again..........they'll start poaching some Ohio guy in recruiting again.

What do OSU fans gain if ND would have won tonight..........nothing, only a day full of the media speculating how they may challenge for a title this season. Does anyone feel the same way........damn, I feel like I'm walking the plank here or something.

Thats fine, if they win out they will probably get a chance to prove it too. I've said this all year....until USC gets beat, they are #1 in the country. I hate them with a passion, but they have won 28 straight for a reason.
