Game Thread Game Two: Ohio State 20, Akron 2 (Final)

The only problem is you go to that forum for Akron fans and the trash they are talking loses all respect for them. I like the team, I like to see them do well as do I with any other Ohio team, but when fans talk shit like that I lose respect for that teams fan base.

Please don't paint with a broad brush.

Should I lump all Buckeye fans together after a riot. I think not.

"Message Board Guy" should not be considered a fair representation of a team's fan base.

Thank you!

Now having weighed in ...I bid buckeye planet a fond farewell and good luck with the season - after this week, of course.

You are fortunate to have one of the really classy people coaching your team. I'd like to think he used our old coach, Jim Dennison, as a role model when Coach Tressel was an assistant at Akron.

Beyond being fantastic football men, they are great human beings.

Good night..and good luck!

Someone may have offered such a line (I know BP offered 26.5 in for-fun-only betting), but Vegas didn't have a line on this game.
Vegas had lines on Hawaii against Northern Colorado of 59.5 points. I highly doubt Vegas thought Michigan would beat App State by more. Lack of a line doesn't equate to the game being such a mismatch that a line isn't worthy.

Maybe. Although I'd suspect that the vast majority of people who were familiar with App State, while they may have thought the Mountaineers would put up a decent fight, didn't really believe they could win the game.
No one said ASU would win, rather just play Michigan a lot tougher than most expected.

If you remember way back when, I said that I rooted for Ohio State when they didn't play MAC teams.

I also said that Ohio State does not represent me.

that's all...
And this recapitulation of your feelings has exactly what to do with my observation that "several on the Akron board felt that it was traitorous, or otherwise fundamentally wrong, to be a fan of both Akron and OSU"?

What does it equate to then? Laziness? Regardless, my point was that UM/App St. was generally perceived as a much larger mismatch than Miami(Fl)/OSU in '02 was. That is clearly true even if you apply a line that didn't exist of 27.5 to the UM/App St. game. And the larger point was that no one perceived Miami and OSU as being on completely different levels in the way that most perceived Michigan and Appalachian State as being on completely different levels. Regardless of why Vegas declined to put a line on this game.

My point exactly. Some in the know thought App St. would put up a decent fight. Few, if any, really believed they would win.

Now you're arguing just to argue. I'm done...

remember, we needed a 50+ yrd field goal against the juggernaut that is marshal a few years back. many would argue, and i feel rightfully so, that several 1AA teams would compete favorably with many mac schools. oh and scum was a missed field goal away from surviving that game. if one more scummer makes a block its an ugly win.

Then again we had "Golden Boy" Justin Zwick as the QB and Lydell "Fake Money" Ross at RB! Zwick didn't live up to the hype he created coming out of high school, and Ross was decent at best. And like someone posted earlier Ohio State had to replace 14? Draft picks! 14!! I was at that Marshall game and all I have to say is it was GOOOOD to have Nuge on our side! 55 Yard field goal and the best kick I've seen by him since the 52-51 yarder he kicked against Wayne back when he was at Centerville... :mad1:
