Sounds like someone's glass is half empty. Holding players out of practice for no other reason than to give them rest and to be prepared in case they get injured doesn't seem like you're preparing to win, but preparing to survive the season. It's also unfair to the players who don't get to take a break from practice, unless everyone gets a turn to sit out.

the other report that I have made it sound like all of the starters would be getting a day off. While my first thoughts were just like you, thinking that this is the preseason equivalent of coaching a game not to lose, I eventually decided that if vince did go down for the season I would still expect us to win the big 12 with the talent that we have. If we couldn't preform then I would start bitching about mack not having a back up plan. Im sure much the same way that bears fans are doing now with grossman down

I have never heard of such a thing, and personally I think it's rediculous at the college level where NCAA regulated schedules make every minute of practice time precious. But hell, what do I know? Every day Vince Young doesn't practice because Mack Brown wants to prove a point ... I'm all for it!!!

In the course of fall practice, the #2 QB will get so many reps with the #1 offense. Whatever that percentage is, it can be achieved in 1 practice, a few practices, or a certain percentage of each daily practice. In addition, I would bet that VY is doing more than simply sitting around on his so-called off day.

Yes. It sounds like Vince didn't practice at all. In your case, doesn't the #1 QB work out somewhere else?
I think he meant along the lines of preparing the team in case the first string quarterback got injured.

Having the second team QB practice with the first team offense for awhile prepares the team for the first string quarterback gettings injured, whether the first string QB is somewhere else or not... right? So what's the point of holding him out of a practice completely.

I heard a rumor that Goerge Bush is going to attend the Texas Vs. OSU game? Also has anyone seen the price per ticket for the game? Looks like they are going for as high as $2,200 per ticket.

The Bush thing is just that, a rumor. If he does, security will be insane.

I saw this morning that pairs of tickets were going as high as $3,000 on eBay.

On a side note: I picked up my new employee ID yesterday!!

If Bush goes to the game, you can bet your ass that you won't make it in the Shoe until the 3rd quarter...security will be a lot tighter, traffic will be even worse...and I imagine a lot of pedestrian space would be blocked off...when he spoke at graduation a couple of years ago it was pretty bad, I can't even imagine how a game would be...

To complement the Zwick sustaining a minor injury, apparently Shipley is out for another week. He's a much bigger blow IMO, as I believe he will be their best WR on the 10th... vs Smith/Boeckman should do fine if Zwick were permanently injured (which seems unlikely).

Someone posted it on hornfans in the shipley status thread, citing the DMN (Dallas Morning News, I'm guessing)... I tried visiting their site but none of the bugmenot.com passwords would work.

Brown praises RB Taylor

09:54 PM CDT on Tuesday, August 16, 2005

By CHIP BROWN / The Dallas Morning News

Coach Mack Brown praised the efforts of running back Ramonce Taylor in practice Tuesday, saying Taylor lined up at both receiver and running back and made several big plays. ... Brown said RB Selvin Young was held out of practice to make sure he isn't being overworked while coming back from off-season ankle surgery. Young is expected back in practice today. ... WR Jordan Shipley (hamstring) didn't practice Tuesday and could be out another week.
