Gameplanning against LSU

Not even close...especially when you recall JTS days at YSU

See here is what I think is the difference between the Big 10 and SEC. Ohio State is an elite team and the other teams have very little chance of beating them without playing a perfect game. Ohio State may have 3 or 4 big games every year. OSU is obviously an elite team in a weaker conference. Illinois played a perfect game and won. Michigan is a JOKE and I would not even consider that a quality win this year. If App State can beat Michigan , what is Florida going to do with the same type of offense and Percy Harvin.

EVERY game in the SEC is a big game. EVERY team has the speed, aggression, perseverance and talent to beat every other SEC team. Miles has coached in a minimum of 9 big games with championship implication this year alone. You do not go through a full SEC schedule and win the championship on talent alone; it requires depth, talent, and coaching.

Especially when he doesnt need to be... that blind toss by the place holder in the VT game could have easily been picked off given VTs abilities at special teams and LSU was already dominating the game. Its just flash for the sake of flash.

Of course, that was all Colt David's speed and talent right there, Miles really didn't know what was going on.:wink2:

Just a question, as a coach, your opponent has fake punts and FGs in his playbook and calls them fairly often... does getting beat by one for a score speak to your opponent's coaching skill, or your lack of preparation?

suprise weapon?

I have a feeling that the Nation will find out about Ray Small during the championship game. He has been plagued by injuries all year and pending his health for the big game I wouldnt be the least bit suprised to see Small have a big play or td in the game. tressel likes to use people like small IE: Gonzo early years against Michigan

i dont post herre much but i read everyday, just thought id finally start putting my 2 cents worth in

Call Steve Spurrier and ask him. It was his squad that got beat on that play.

Run the ball out of the 4 WR set.

actually, i want to see us in the silver packages a lot. Tressel has lined up with two TEs and the SE in a bunch a lot this year. this game is the perfect time to sneak Saine or Ray Small in at that second TE/H-back spot.

SE..... TE LT LG C RT RG
.....TE.............QB...............FL

.....................RB

plus, after you've pounded away at them to the strong side, throwing a weak side counter at them is a great change-up. i want to see the formations we saw against Penn State, not the basic I-sets that we saw against Wiscy. Sparty, and Illinois (the Illinois game plan in particular was atrocious. we were in the power-I about 75% of that game. kinda hard to be successful throwing the ball when you only have one guy out wide, you're in max-protect, and only have one or two receivers running routes). the Penn State gameplan was masterful. heck, we even saw some wing-T looks in that game. the reason we never punted in Happy Valley was that Penn State had no idea what was coming due to all the different looks we gave them.

That's a catch 22. Good coaches should always have they're team prepared. Is Spurrior a good coach, hell yes he is. Did Miles set that play up, yes he did. We ran a QB draw on third down to set that play up so that was a great coaching effort on his part. He saw something in film that lead to him drawing up the fake. In fact we pulled off another fake field goal later in the season that soon, teams played safe mode on FGs, they didn't even go for the block. Why, because they learned they had to respect Miles' coaching or they would get burned.:wink2:

Hypothesis:

As the Longhorns have continued to disappoint since the departure of Vince Young, Xray-Randy has moved his college football affiliation east.

Maybe you're right, but I still think you're opponents were stupid to be so aggressive after you faked VT early in the season. Its not like they didnt know you would do it.

Hell, LSU forum posters predicted the VT fake.

edit- I think the VT fake came back on a penalty

Small could have a break out game, so could Sanzenbacher or Saine. It's just a matter of time when one of the secret weapons goes off. These are one players with hair triggers. The cool thing is it could be anyone of them at the most unexpected time. Small was injured during the first part of the season, Dane stepped up and so did Brandon Saine but had a few injuries themselves. It'll be great to see all of them healthy and on the field at the same time.

LSU has some as well. Trindon Holliday is one that's pretty good, he does a few things well and is the 2nd fastest player in the NCAA. Although Charles Scott hasn't been getting as many carries as I would like I would throw him in the wild card category. Ex: First half he had 6 carries for 93 yards and two td's against Kentucky. He didn't get any carries in the second half I believe until the final play of the 3rd overtime. I don't understand the logic but he is a very good RB. There are a few more but I'll just stop with these two because they are the only ones that may play somewhat of a role in the game. Well I'll give you one more. Chad Jones on defense, that kid is awesome.

9 games eh? Well, every game for every team in a conference has "championship implications" so LSU isn't alone in this category.

Look, fact is y'all have a fine football team down there but other than a few games this year they seem to have underachieved. LSU could easily, easily, be a 7-5 team right now. Florida, Auburn and Alabama all had LSU on the ropes. Alabama is a team that you should have mowed down instead, like Auburn it took a miracle play or two for LSU to pull out the win. The loss to Kentucky is inexcusable and I'm not impressed with Arkansas other than McFadden and Felix Jones. Dick is a lousy QB who can throw about 3 patterns and it's questionable as to how well he can throw those on any given series.

So please, if you want to discuss football reasonably with us do so but don't think we're about to drink your kool-aid.

Here's a fact for you. Ponder on this one for a bit. BTW, this was posted by an LSU fan on Tigerforums.com so don't go thinking that it's a Buckeye feeding you propaganda.

"As far as their schedule, I'd posted this the other day:

Quote:
Over the last 8 years (as far back as my source goes), the average Strength of schedule for Big Ten teams were far better than SEC teams. For instance, OSU had an average SOS of 14.375. The mighty SEC UF gator's SOS was 21.125. Bama's was 22.875, and Auburn's was 43. The same held true for other Big Ten schools, PSU, Michigan, Wiscy all had a better average SOS over the last 8 years. Here's the source too, look it up yourself:

hive_computer_rankings.html"

To my fellow Buckeyes! :oh:
