I know you are wondering why I am here.. as a Senior in High School I haven't been around long enough to understand why most SEC fans hate OSU.

Originally I was torn. I didn't really want OSU to win, nor did I want LSWHO to win. Now, however, I have come to the conclusion that Tressel deserves this one. You guys have been in the thickest of the thick when it comes to the BCS standings for the past 6 years, and I commend you for that. When January 7th rolls around, you may not have many SEC fans on your side, but you do have me. Lester Miles doesn't deserve to even be there in the first place.

Go Buckeyes! and ROLL TIDE!

Welcome to BP, thanks for the well wishes. I'm sure that you are in the minority down there. :wink2:

I dont hate the SEC...I just dont like the SEC speed jibberish (which suspiciously disappeared as soon as LSU made the NC today)... Well that and your coach ruined my dolphins... and the OT losses dont count garbage...

Maybe I do hate the SEC after all

From what i gather a big part of the SEC mentality comes from Auburn's snubbing in 2004 that and losing the Civil War.
And having 8 teams that would go unbeaten in the AFC West. Big 10 teams they can't even compete against the faster and hotter women down here. a one legged midget in cement shoes that goes to Fla would beat Ted Ginn in the 40.
/lots and lots of Sarcasm. Except the hotter women that is.

I think it would be awesome if we could settle this North/South aggression on the field. Like the Big 10 - ACC challenge in basketball, we should have a Big 10 - SEC challenge at the beginning of the year. Would make for some great games and would go a long ways in determining who belongs in the title game by creating great intersectional match-ups.

Honestly, I have never really understood why SEC fans would care about tOSU to be honest, historically we know how we've done against them and them us. All the SEC fans at work constantly tell me how over-rated our coach is, how our city is horrible, and our state sucks, yet at the end of the day I wonder what the hell we ever did?

Wow, a Buckeye supporter from the SEC! Haha, in all seriousness, the irrational hatred is quite odd. I haven't had a problem with the SEC until recent years (mainly when Urban Meyer went to Florida). He just annoys me. But even then, it's the outspoken, ignorant haters that I have a problem with. A have a great deal of respect for quite a few of the teams and players. Florida actually used to be a favorite team of mine, back in the days of Danny Wuerffel. I still have his jersey hanging in my old closet at my parents' home. Not so much of a Florida fan anymore, though..

Thanks, though, I'm sure it's safe to say that we all appreciate the support. Good luck in your bowl game, although I can't think of what it is at the moment. Edit coming soon..

EDIT: I like Alabama more than Colorado, so I'll be rooting for you guys in that game!

Having lived in the heart of Dixie for close to a decade (its been great and the people are great -- just avoid talking football if you want rationality) it has been an interesting progression. Initially Ohio State was not a blip on the SEC fan radar. After we beat Miami in 2002 I heard a lot of comparisons to the Alabama team of 1992. It has since changed in a big way.

I think the resentment is a combination of a few factors. The Civil War is a big deal down here (or as they refer to it: The War of Northern Aggression). They may joke about it, but always keep in mind that this is a very serious subject for them. It is very common for offices to have paintings of Robert E. Lee or some other southern general hanging in a prominent place. There is also a very defensive reaction to any attacks from the media whether it is in politics, sports or anywhere else. Finally, it doesn't help when experts such as Kirk Herbstreit appear on radio programs and bash the Big 10 for a lack of talent and speed. Add it all up and no true southerner will be rooting for Ohio State (no matter how much they hate LSU) -- an Ohio State victory would be a social commentary on everything they hold sacred (SEC football) and would cause their worlds to implode.

So it'd be like Sherman's (Buckeye) march all over again. With JT as Sherman. Ironically Sherman was the first president of Louisiana State Seminary of Learning & Military Academy, nowadays known as Louisiana State University.
