Greg Schiano (HC Rutgers Scarlet Knights)

Hard to know how much is Schiano, how much is Fickell, how much is the right athletes to support a scheme but all I know is in 13 we had a pretty below average defense and when Ash came in things got better in a hurry. Now that Schiano is here it seems like it went up another notch...sure seems like it is Schiano that is the difference maker for what we are seeing on the field.

I thought that Urban always asked for a 2 year commitment when he hired his assistant coaches so that would mean, if that were true, Schiano has one more year.

It has been implied that this does not necessarily hold true for Schiano and even Schiano has said something along the lines that any agreement he has with Urban is between Urban and Schiano (private). I don't think that means he automatically leaves after this year...I know us fans would love for him to stick around a while.

Can we keep him?
To be frank, why would any one want to hire him as a head coach? Besides the nepotism of the college head coaching world (see Gene Chizik). Remove the 2006 year and his stint at Rutgers was very average. Even less than average seeing he was coaching in the Big East and never won it, even in the 2006 season he was second. We won't go into his NFL experience since that does not translate to college.

I think he is a great Defensive Coordinator who needs to be happy with that and live out his coaching career with Urban at OSU. Be like Bud Foster at Virginia Tech. Nothing wrong with that.
