Has James Turned His Back on Akron/Cleveland?

OK, maybe so. So what? If a mfg company can make more money closing up shop in one locale and moving to some other, aren't they obligated to do that (the shareholders interest being the metaphor for James' interest in rings, money, or whatever)?

If a company issued a statement such as the one below, about being committed to the area for the long term, and then backed out on it 3 months later, I would expect the people in the community to be pissed off and express their disappointment and feelings of betrayal.

LeBron: 'I Won't Stop' Until I Bring Title To Cleveland

In an interview on NBA TV, LeBron James indicated that he "won't stop" until he reaches his goal of winning a title in Cleveland.

"I got a goal, and it's a huge goal, and that's to bring an NBA championship here to Cleveland," James said. "And I won't stop until I get it."

Taken literally, James' statement is newsworthy because it would mean that the Cavs' superstar, who can become a free-agent this summer, would stay in Cleveland at least as long as it takes to bring the city an NBA championship.

James also spoke glowingly about the professionalism and depth of the Cavs' roster.

Cont'd ...

Oh, again, I completely agree that fans have every right to be pissed as hell, and that quote makes LeBron's decision look all the more bad. But.... bringing a championship to a city isn't quite the same as being an employer of people, in my opinion. I mean, I get the value of a championship - 2002 did wonders for Columbus on many levels... but... it's still something less "real" vis a vis a company leaving town (ie Lennox). ("real" is not the best word there, I just can't come up with one at the moment)

That said, even when Lennox left Columbus.... no real "evil" befell us.

Spoken as though the guy, who staged that horse abortion of a public spectacle last night, would be so pedantic as to concoct the difference in his mind. Methinks, not so much.

What did you expect when you tuned in a show based on the lame ass premise that watching a jock pick a team was going to be worth your time and effort?

Cinci:

I'm confused. I was commenting above that I doubt "he who shan't be named" has the mental aptitude to differentiate between leaving a team versus a region. I really don't. Hence my comment. Where are you going with this statement directly above?

I took your comments as applying more to the show and not the confusion between region and city.

What struck me was not so much that LeBron had the gall to suggest an hour of prime time TV from a network, but that it would draw the audience it did. The numbers were out of sight for an infomercial about a basketball player.

He didn't leave Cleveland. He left the Cavaliers.

Hense why your SN is Cincibuck - I don't expect you to understand.

Doesn't matter now if Lebr** turned his back on this city/state. We've turned our backs, hearts and minds. He will NEVER be welcomed in his home town, community, city, state...etc etc. I hope he doesn't seriously intend on coming to the 'Shoe for the game against Miami. That would literally be suicide.

Wouldn't surprise me at all if there were snipers ready to hit the Ohio state-line if they heard about him coming back up.

I'm no longer a LeBron James fan, being that he's now a Miami Heater. Regardless, the idea that the hourlong special in which he announced his departure was evidence of a James personality problem seems to me to have been proven false by the recipients of the profits - the young men and women who benefit from the programs of the Boys and Girls Clubs of America.

Bottom line: I think James is still a good guy whose team I hope to see rot in NBA hell.

Well -- when the Indians/Browns play the Yankees/Cowboys you won't find me rooting for the New York/Dallas side. I root for the Browns -- always -- even/especially when they play the Bengals because I grew up in Dayton where/when the Browns were the only Ohio team in the NFL.

By the way, I well remember my freshman year at Ohio State, 1961, and all the Cleveland assholes rooting for the Yankees in the World Series over the Reds. Some things cut both ways.

I don't like the fact that LeBron left Cleveland, or the manner in which he chose to announce his intentions, but I certainly support his right to chose to do so.

As for comments about snipers.... wow, way over the top.
