HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

What you absolutely blame Day for is the atrocious OL. I don’t see how you can evaluate anything about the offense because the line couldn’t block a blow up doll all fucking night. I don’t even know if we need a portal QB or not.

I don't think Day can risk not getting a portal QB. He can't go into next season with a QB with so little experience as this QB room has. Go get Ward or Howard, both who have a lot of college football experience and roll with that over the potential of Brown or Kienholz.

I'm drunk and it's irrelevant to my over all point.
I mean.....you and Jax are missing my overall point. Get on his ass for thinking WR screens or runs to the short side work. Or employing the worst positional coach in the game today. Or being an offensive genius but having the question of "what do you do when your QB gets hurt and they know you're running?" be answered by "run it anyways!!!" But we kicked their fucking asses so badly in 2019 that they faked COVID, ran and hid under their mommy's skirt, then were so desperate that they had to install a cheating scandal that might take down the entire program.......and y'all are grumpy bc he's probably not the guy so you're ignoring all that and going "1-3 born in third" like a bunch of fucking Michigan fans.

Use actual things that he sucks at, not this phoney Michigan record that we know should've been 2-0 before they started blatantly cheating. Tonight was even more evidence of how easy it is when you know what the other team is doing....don't discount that shit. I don't know what CJ does if they aren't cheating in 21, but there's no fucking world where they beat the guys who are dominating the NFL right now straight up in 22 without cheating. But some of y'all are so pissed that you're gonna pretend like they didn't cheat just to make a case that can be made without a fraudulent Michigan record?

There is no magic bullet QB in the portal. Does anybody really think the K-State kid is a significant upgrade on McCord? They need to be in tge portal for OL help, and not just warm bodies, because that unit sucks and Joe fucking Montana isn't winning behind those guys.

Howard can run and it's not some potential that is seen on some high school tape. He has legit running ability for college football. He needs someone like Day to coach him up as a passer if he wants a real chance to be a NFL starting QB. He can win games with his legs especially if he has OSU level talent around him.

He hired Frye and has thus far retained him. If he doesn't fix that, he's the head coach and the buck stops at him. HCs are as good as the coaches they put around them, but also those they retain or don't retain. So I will blame Day for that if he doesn't make a swift change there. It's been absolutely horrible and you can't win a championship with a unit that bag. It's been so bad that not firing Frye is almost negligent.

In a way, I'm agreeing. You can't properly assess skill positions that we are loaded at without a good OL. We don't have it and Frye is terrible at this, he really is. Day is going to have to make some more hard decisions imo.

I agree with most of this, and also believe they cheated for 2 and a half years (minimum), but I'll believe the powers that be hammer their asses when I see it. The NCAA is not exactly known for fairness nor consistency.

Until then, the record is what it is and they're playing for a championship while we just lost 14-3 to Missouri.

To be honest I don’t even know if it’s Frye’s fault or if it’s simply a lack of talent from Studs recruiting misses. Last year I was toying with wanting Walton gone because of the awful CB play yet a year later they were probably the best unit on the team. 2022’s OL was mostly pretty good and an improvement over 2021. Frye’s recruiting hasn’t been great but if the rumors are true about NIL being garbage for OL, then the NIL collectives should be launched into the sun. OL is just a shit show right now and it’s hard to know where the blame lies. I suspect we’ll be having this same convo with whoever replaces LJ when the time comes.

I have no confidence in the NCAA setting things right, but that doesn't change that it needs to be set right. 1-3 is not an accurate representation of what happened any more than Armando Galarraga only threw 8 2/3 of a perfect game.

And here is why I am a popcorn fart away from wiping my hands of CFB in a nutshell.

The truth probably lies halfway in-between. He inherited a great OL from Stud, but only for one year. Now he's dealing with his misses after that. But if you come in here, you figure it out between the portal and recruiting. Imo, this OL should be much much better than what they showed today.

I don't get paid to figure out the problem, but Day does. Frye (currently) does. Even if Day is the QB whisperer, his QBs won't be able to whisper if they keep getting murdered out there. Not aimed at you, but more at the issue Day faces if he doesn't get that sorted out fast...like NOW. I felt bad for whoever had the ball tonight.

tOSU signed 2 OT in their incoming class.
Two 3* (#428 & #465 in the 247 composite)
Got two more 5* receivers, though.

In '23,
We brought in one OT, a 3* (#501)
Got three top-50 WRs, though.

This staff needs a "come to jesus" talk regarding recruiting priorities.

next year forward he can get pantsed by scUM and even lose another game as well along the way and still hobble into the 12 team playoff. Where do you draw the line? Or is being a team that stumbles into a 12 team playoff and makes a quick exit every year acceptable? Day is quickly turning the program into one that can only win games that he has a pretty decisive talent advantage.
Well at least he wins games he should win. It’s not like previous coaches weren’t getting blown out in games that we had a decisive talent advantage.

Previous coaches won B1G championships, beat ttun, and even won NC's. That makes unexpected losses to the Iowa's and Purdues of the world palatable compared to what we have now.

It's really unfortunate timing that Gene is retiring now. Because Day's job should be in question, right now. He shouldn't be getting a free pass into 2024 simply because of an AD change but it appears that is the case.

I say this because OSU should absolutely be reaching out to Mike Vrabel right now and gauging his interest. But it's not going to happen now and it feels like a potentially missed opportunity.
Vrabel didn’t like to recruit. Absolute pipe dream to think he’d come back if that’s something he would have to do.

Yep the K-State kid is a significant upgrade. He’s a leader and a warrior, two things that McCord hasn’t shown he is. The OL can be fixed with two new starters. When Wypler left it seems like the ability for the line to make appropriate adjustments went with him.
