What I'm most excited about now is getting some life back in our arena district. I know the businesses and bars there have been hurting and now they can start digging out of the red. I love going to CBJ games and spending the weekend nights downtown!

Hockey's back? Big frickin deal .. I'd rather there be no hockey than watch the crap my Rangers skate out onto the Garden ice every night.

Brutus1: "Now, lets hope either the Penguins or the Blue Jackets win the Sidney Crosby lottery next week and all will be well."

What's the deal with the draft? Do all the teams have an equal chance of getting Crosby? I hope Bettman learned a lesson from his old pal David Stern & ices down some envelopes, weighs some ping-pong balls, or whatever it takes to land that kid in Blue.

I don't give a rat's ass about Hockey and don't care if they ever play another game. I literally couldn't name 5 players in the NHL.

That being said, I'll say this. There is NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING in sports that matches the intensity of a Hockey game "That means something" meaning the playoffs, particularly the farther they get in the playoffs. I'll watch those games just because of the energy level that these guys bring. Those players leave their nuts on the ice in the big games.

Yes, All the teams are in the lottery, with extra weight given to non playoff teams from the last 3 years, so yes, 'Blue' has a very good chance at the kid.

gbear - the goals are NOT changing size. They're limiting the size of the equipment the goalies can wear, however, which IMO is a good thing. Go back to the 80's and look at what the goalies were wearing...that's what it'll be again (at least size-wise). With the elimination of the line, and the league swearing they're going to enforce obstruction and hooking calls, these games are really going to speed up. I'm looking forward to it.

It wastes SportsCenter time, enough said.

SportsCenter wastes enough of its time already on editorial-type crap.

The Jackets have as good of a chance at Crosby as anyone else for the draft. It looks like they will hold it in a couple of weeks. They will have three balls out of 48 in the draft lottery (6.25% chance). Buffalo, Pittsburgh, and the Rangers also have three. Anaheim, Atlanta, Calgary, Carolina, Chicago, Edmonton, LA, Minnesota, Nashville, and Phoenix each get two balls. The other teams have one each. Its based on a system where you lose a ball for a playoff appearance in the previous three years and lose a ball for winning the lottery in the previous four years. You can only lose two, so every team has at least one ball.

GBear, the probem is that the size of the goalies pads these days leaves no room to shoot. You have to get side to side movement or you cannot score. One of the most exciting plays on Hockey is a hard shot from the top of the circle. Bret Hull made a living off that spot. Without a screen most goalies will make the block by stepping out 3-4 ft.
I love shooters. Give them the reason to let it rip.

If the Rangers get Crosby....I'll go nuts. Man I miss the good days of hockey.

Question: Why do they have to change the game? Hockey was doing just fine in the late 90s early 2000s. They'll never get the NFL sized audience, but they mustve screwed something up to go from what they were to what they are. Fix whatever they screwed up.

I misread sorry... good thing they didn't mess with the size of the net. I don't mind them trimming the pads... The glove issue is prob. a mute point. How many times has the puck bounced off the glove to go in? It happens, but these guys are good with the glove... The big thing there is the small pads...

We would have had a top ten pick in last years draft... this year the talent pool will be deep (Not only is the top prospect a freak... you have basically two draft pools to pull from... whoever gets the first couple picks will be very happy. Their second round pick will basically be a equivalent to a late first round pick without having to pay first round money).

There will be a major conspiracy theory if either NY team gets Crosby... I hope the BJ's get him, however if we don't get him I hope a small market team gets him... The RedWings, Rangers, Leafs, Devils, Islanders, Stars, etc can go screw themselves... They've been buying cups (or trying to buy cups) too long!!

The best part about no having a hockey season this year was not having to listen to all of the fair weather fans in dallas talk about the stars as if they care. I hate hockey and im proud of it. Its not that its a bad game, im sure its not, its that I cannot relate to anything that is going on. The most ice i ever saw growing up was in my snowcone that i got after little league games. In college it would never fail, there would be a perfectly good basketball game on and then some fag from Dallas would come in a say, "Dude how do you not have the Stars on". My only reaction would be, "Dude, If you cared so fucking much how come you didn't watch one regular season game? Name me three of the starters, HELL name me how many players start!" I would get the predictable look of confusion and keep on watching basketball. Funny thing is that I couldn't answer either of those questions myself, but no one ever called me on it. Like I said, I am sure that it is a great game, just next to impossible for me to relate to.

27 I have always been a Rangers guy. I was Brad Park, NEVER Bobby Orr. Best jersey in the history of sports.

I am a purest, but the people that play are too big not to make changes. In the old days over 6' and 200+ lbs was huge. Now, these guys are bigger than that and some are 6'5 250 +. They can probably cover almost 4-5' of ice just by their size alone. The ice is only so big, it is why the game is bogged down. They all hook, they all hold. Changes are needed.

Goal equipment has gotten lighter, gloves bigger, blockers wider. It needs to be brought back to the days of the 70's and 80's and standardised in the same way you cannot have more than a 1/2" curve on the stick.

When does hockey look it's best? International play. The space behind the goal is 3-4" bigger and there is no red line. The premium is put on skating shooting and stick handling not who is the biggest.

The game today is not open enough. It is bogged down by stick checks and holding along with having to push the puck right in front of the net to score.

PS. High Lonesome, you are not supposed to like Hockey, you are from freeken Tehas. Unless you have skated on natural ice before, you are not supposed to get it.

I could be wrong but I would assume that this has got to be one of the problems with the game. Does anyone go to Lightning games? or the carolina team? Isn't there a team in Tenn. Come on, for the most part these people do not care about hockey. I know that they are trying to expand the sport but it seems to me that they are just thinning out the tallent pool. They should probably contract a couple of teams while they have a shot. If you want to build hockey in the south, then start witht the kids. Build rinks and start up "pop warner" hockey leagues. Eventually you will have an intrest in the sport. The only reason that Hockey works in Dallas is because they have sucesfully turned it into a social event. People here will do anything and spend any amount to be at the "it" place. Oh and I am fairly possitive that Mike Modano has slept with every single woman in the metroplex.

p.s. if i am not supposed to like it, then get it out of here. All it does is force me to change the station off of local sports.

Yes... considering they won the Stanley Cup before the strike. It's shame becuse that really boosted hockey down here and people we going nuts for them. I think that the fact they won the cup the last time they were on the ice will help with the attendence here in the Tampa area. They are lowering some of the ticket prices to what they were when the team was formed... that should help to.
