Game Thread Illinois 0, at tOSU 30 (Sep 26, 3:30, ABC/ESPN)

I went to yesterday's game, first game I've been to since 2005, and had a blast. I had forgotten just how loud the Shoe can get... louder now that there's a Block O in the closed end of the Shoe too. It was awesome to see that literally no one left even when it started pouring rain. It was a bit disappointing to see so many people leaving early, but they spent the money so I guess they can leave whenever they want. I was really unhappy with the people who started booing Tressel after he elected to punt the ball from the 35 or so in the 4th quarter when we were up 23-0. That's just ridiculous. It was a nice moment when a lot of people started cheering loudly to drown them out, though.

Anyway, I was very impressed by the Bucks. This was Tresselball ran to perfection. Our defense did bend, but it never broke, and our offense did what it had to. When the rain came pouring down it it became clear that passing would be tricky, we just ran right over them. It was great that we were running the ball so effectively that even when everyone in the season knew that we were going to run the ball, we were still getting 5, 10, and 15 yards on carries. And you can't argue against two straight shutouts, not to mention the way our defense shut down USC... I think this is probably the best defense we've had since 2005.

And how about Tressel throwing for the touchdown at the end there? What a badass. Someone mentioned I think in the pregame thread that we've blown out Northwestern pretty badly ever since they beat us in 2004... I feel like Tressel likes to send the message to the other Big Ten teams that this is Ohio State's conference, and the rest of them are just playing in it. Step out of line (like Illinois did in 2007,) and they'll pay for years to come. Feels good, man.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I forgot to mention: Brian Rolle is an absolute BEAST.

Below is an attached photo of myself, DH and the girls attempting a :oh::io:in the parking garage. The girls look more like "I's" but they gave it their best shot!

I haven't been following this thread much. But what did everyone think of Coleman's hit at the end of the game on the Illini QB(he got flagged for it). I didn't think it looked nearly as bad as what the announcers were making it out to be.

It was a late hit, no question.

it wasn't as bad as they made it seem.....talking about a possible suspension.....but it was pretty bad.

It was a little late but looked a lot worse b/c of the position the Illini player was in w/ a defender already on his legs and he got bent backwards. The hit was kind of a glancing one, don't think he hit him that hard b/c he flew right over the top of the pile and actually think he did a complete somersault. I've seen a lot worse this year that haven't gotten suspensions. I wouldn't think a suspension would come out of this. Does anyone else?????

I remember a portion of the game where you could hear the crowd start cheering when it started to pour hard...

I think it was in the first quarter. It was raining before we went into the stadium, but not that hard. When it really started to pour the crowd got pumped. I was in the closed in, and at one point we could barely see the towers.

I have a question pertaining to the second half. What is the opinion on the goal line playcalling? Why do they keep trying the play action pass when it seems obvious that Pryor is uncomfortable with it? Boom isn't that great off tackle either. Why not go 5 wide and let him run it in? No one has stopped that play yet. Just seems to me that they are trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.

He needs to get comfortable with it.

My take on the game comes from Little Bill Dagget - "I guess you think I am kicking you Zook but it ain't so. Wat I am doing is talking, you hear? I am talking to all those villains who stomp on block O. I am talking to all those villians in the SEC who think beating Bi-Directional Louisianna means something. I am talking to all the villians who think we can't play in big games. And what I am saying is that there isn't any quit in Ohio State. And if there was you wouldn't want to come looking for it anyhow."
(see about the one minute mark...)

Just got back home from Columbus. Visited my sister and her family. We took the kids down to tailgate. The rain kept us in the parking garage but we had a good time. We were not able to actually watch the game in the stadium. With 3 kids 5 and under there was no way we would entertain them that long. So we soaked up the atmosphere around the stadium. Saw TBDBITL march in, which the kids loved! And Brutus was a hit! Someday my DH and I will get into a game, my sister did not get tickets again this year but when she does we are next in line. Listened to the start of the game on the radio as we drove back to her house where we watched the rest of the game and stayed dry. All in all it was an amazing experience. Haha great stuff. Great to see another Buckeye fan from MD. Hopefully you'll be able to enjoy a game from inside The Shoe next year.
