Calibuck...you may want to check the ratings again.

Ohio State ranked right about #10 of part time MBA programs in the nation. These represent the programs where most working professionals go for their education.

Please provide links when quoting things like that.

In my several years on football forums, I find that when football recruiting discussion breaks down in to who's school is better academically, it's usually time to take a break from posting.

Want to talk academics, go see if the Northwestern board is entertaining guests.

Ever notice that it is the guys with the little dongs who want to talk about how much they make at the single's bars?

I've been there. The place is quite famous.

So, the story goes about a young ensign who was in the naval hospital in the Philippines recovering from a bit of minor surgery. A middle aged nurse came back from his room one day laughing and giggling to herself. A younger nurse inquired, what?s so amusing?
The older RN, still trying to contain herself, replied, I just gave that young fella a sponge bathe. On his rather itty-bitty private part I couldn?t help to notice a tattoo with the insignia of ?Little Moby Dick?. I felt so bad for him, but I couldn?t help but laugh. You?ve just to see it yourself.
So the two of them planned for the younger nurse to give the poor sap a sponge bath the next day so she, too, could see the mini pee-pee.
The next day the older nurse giggled and chortled while she waited in the day room for the return of the younger nurse from the sponge bath session. And, indeed the young nurse did return, but much longer than anticipated. And when she did return, her clothes were disheveled, her nurses hat was askew and her hair was all undone.
What happened to you? Did you see it? Was it as I said?

The young nurse gasped, you forgot to tell me everything that was written there. Sure it said ?Little Moby Dick? but when you get up close it reads ?Little Moby Dick?s Bar and Grille, Manila Bay, Philippines, Try our steaks, they?re the best? and then it has menu along with a map and directions from the naval station to the bar.

Looks like Melvin Fellows episode has already started to take a toll on Ron Zook:lol:

Rivals.com Football Recruiting - Burton: Coaches have only selves to blame

"We're turning the recruiting over to the so-called recruiting gurus," Zook told the Arlington Heights, Ill., Daily Herald. "Now, all of a sudden, just like you've got basketball coaches complaining that it's turning over to the AAU coaches, now we're turning it over to these guys that can call them. "Well, you know what a lot of them are saying. They're selling their school to these kids, and we're not able to talk to them. To me, we're losing this thing, in my opinion."

Bingo... another good place to go for some "We have student athlete" discussions is any MAC board.

Add Penn State boards to the list of "Yeah? Well, we're a more respected school than you, neener neener" folks.

Penn State, the Big Ten's new Northwestern wannabe.

Surprise surprise, Bobby Burton late to the party, again (those quotes debuted on tuesday)... and taking things way too personally. The tone of that response was straight off of a free board.

Instead of wasting their time on that silly Recruiting Planet why couldn't our best and brightest have invested their efforts on a board where football fans can discuss what really gets them pumped - relative academic rankings.

Yes, yes. Add skunkbear to the list. Did you know Newsome is excited about Business School at SCum... whereas Pryor... well... he didn't mention the schooling part of it at all. Newsome, of course, is clearly the superior quarterback.

Lopo.....
I read some of the stuff you and others on the Illini Scout board say about Ohio State's academics. You folks need to crawl out of that hick town of Champaign. In case you folks didn't know, Ohio State's long reputation-draining policy of open admissions (but not open graduation as you and Michigan folks have always incorrectly implied) ended about 10 years ago. Ohio State's average freshman ACT score is right about even with the average Illinois student's score.....in fact, OSU's may have surpassed Illinois' in the past couple of years.

Then some of your dimwitted Illini failed to mention Ohio State's Business School. It has ALWAYS been better than Illinois' business school and has widened the gap substantially the past 20 years. OSU's Fisher College of Business is a Top 10 MBA program in the nation.

Furthermore, Ohio State has several programs that are ranked far ahead of any like programs at Illinois.

Illinois still enjoys a lead over OSU in prestigious academic reputation, but those reputations take years and years to change...like decades. But the way you Illini talk it's by a wide margin. Overall, Illinois is 4th or 5th in the BigTen in this category. Ohio State is 5th or 6th depending on how you measure it. Given another dozen years or so, OSU will probably climb over Penn State and Illinois to reach the #4 or #3 spot, challenging the Top 3 (Northwestern, Michigan, and Wisconsin).

Lastly......Jeff Cumberland couldn't get into Ohio State but miraculously he was welcomed with open arms by Illinois. That's a fact that your Illini bretheren never mention and causes them to get riled up......
Lord Jeff Buck, here's a doozy. Do you remember making this post?
"Illinois under Zook should be a lot like Minnesota under Mason - they'll get a bunch of "second tier" recruits who never get offered by OSU, PSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, and might occasionally land a top-20 player from Ohio. Buckeye fans shouldn't worry too much. Now Iowa, on the other hand, might just see their Chicago pipeline dry up considerably now that Zook is running the show in Champaign."
The only part of that statement thats true is the last one. Iowa's decline since Zook's hiring is not a coincidence.

Daveboy, amazing how you havent responded since Orangeroughy pointed out that youre "statistics" were in fact false and came from tOSU's own website. shocking.
"Ohio State's average freshman ACT score is right about even with the average Illinois student's score.....in fact, OSU's may have surpassed Illinois' in the past couple of years. ":tongue2:
You may in fact reach the academic levels of Illinois eventually and maybe even surpass Illinois but its all about reputation, which takes a long time to establish.

Few examples:

My best friend got into the #1 Chemical Engineering program at Purdue, but was wait listed at Illinois. After senior year ended, he was let into Illinois off the waitlist and immediately jumped to Illinois even though their program isnt quite as good (still top 10). Why? As he put it, "Its Illinois. Everyone knows about Illinois' engineering reputation." Reputation.

Also, the sun-times within the past month or so had an article stating that Illinois has the greatest numbers of foreign students of any public university in the country. (Though, im curious as to which private school has more). It has an international reputation.
My roommate is from Taiwan. I asked him why would he come all the way to Illinois from Taiwan. He said, "Everyone knows of Illinois in Taiwan and China. Its the goal of any future engineer and chemist." Reputation.

you can have the statistics but its all about the reputation and that take MANY years to build.

just like every school, Illinois is trying to improve its academic rigor and the quality of students it lets in. Last year was the toughest year ever to get into Illinois and the school is planning on decreasing the number of spots for each of the next several years.

As for Cumberland, yea, as a program Zook needed playmakers so he somehow got Cumberland in.

But what you fail to mention is that Illinois rejected two top talent kids last year in '07 in 4star WR Anthony Morris and 4star RB Deries Hodge. Most of the coaches thought Morris was very near the level of Benn. This year, Morris is reapplying for admission after working on his test scores and improving his grades.

Also, Illinois rejected a couple of kids this year who wanted to commit to them but didnt have the academics.

You mention that OSU has programs that are "ranked far ahead of any like programs at Illinois. " Not saying they dont exist but please enlighten me.

Someone should start a board for people who want to talk academics.

Seriously, this is football and football recruiting. I agree with the above poster who noticed how it usually devolves to the academics/Tressel cheats/ Mo Clarrett type of stuff when opposing fans have nowhere to go with the football related topics.

Check with the PSU and Northwestern fans for the type of stuff you want to discuss.

I'd say ND is much more responsible for Iowa's Chicago pipeline drying up than Illinois as recruits Filer, Fleming, and Cwynar will attest. What was incorrect about landing the occasional top 20 Ohio player? Cordale Scott was the only one of note last year, and he was ranked 15th in the state by Rivals. In fact, you'd have to go out on a limb to even say Illinois finished a distant 5th in recruiting the state of Ohio. That's actually a fall off from Mason's success in the state.
