Illinois Fighting Illini (you'll see)

Lord Jeff Buck, here's a doozy. Do you remember making this post?

"Illinois under Zook should be a lot like Minnesota under Mason - they'll get a bunch of "second tier" recruits who never get offered by OSU, PSU, Michigan, Notre Dame, and might occasionally land a top-20 player from Ohio. Buckeye fans shouldn't worry too much. Now Iowa, on the other hand, might just see their Chicago pipeline dry up considerably now that Zook is running the show in Champaign."

The only part of that statement thats true is the last one. Iowa's decline since Zook's hiring is not a coincidence.

Daveboy, amazing how you havent responded since Orangeroughy pointed out that youre "statistics" were in fact false and came from tOSU's own website. shocking.

"Ohio State's average freshman ACT score is right about even with the average Illinois student's score.....in fact, OSU's may have surpassed Illinois' in the past couple of years. ":tongue2:

You may in fact reach the academic levels of Illinois eventually and maybe even surpass Illinois but its all about reputation, which takes a long time to establish.

Few examples:

My best friend got into the #1 Chemical Engineering program at Purdue, but was wait listed at Illinois. After senior year ended, he was let into Illinois off the waitlist and immediately jumped to Illinois even though their program isnt quite as good (still top 10). Why? As he put it, "Its Illinois. Everyone knows about Illinois' engineering reputation." Reputation.

Also, the sun-times within the past month or so had an article stating that Illinois has the greatest numbers of foreign students of any public university in the country. (Though, im curious as to which private school has more). It has an international reputation.
My roommate is from Taiwan. I asked him why would he come all the way to Illinois from Taiwan. He said, "Everyone knows of Illinois in Taiwan and China. Its the goal of any future engineer and chemist." Reputation.

you can have the statistics but its all about the reputation and that take MANY years to build.

just like every school, Illinois is trying to improve its academic rigor and the quality of students it lets in. Last year was the toughest year ever to get into Illinois and the school is planning on decreasing the number of spots for each of the next several years.

As for Cumberland, yea, as a program Zook needed playmakers so he somehow got Cumberland in.

But what you fail to mention is that Illinois rejected two top talent kids last year in '07 in 4star WR Anthony Morris and 4star RB Deries Hodge. Most of the coaches thought Morris was very near the level of Benn. This year, Morris is reapplying for admission after working on his test scores and improving his grades.

Also, Illinois rejected a couple of kids this year who wanted to commit to them but didnt have the academics.

You mention that OSU has programs that are "ranked far ahead of any like programs at Illinois. " Not saying they dont exist but please enlighten me.
lopo you are a high school kid that is in over your head on this site. Your bullshit may play on Scout but this place isn't for you. There are a lot of people on here that have information that is infinitely better than what you get from your "insiders". I assume you want inside scoops on kids OSU and Illinois are battling over, well if that is the case I wouldn't dismiss what guys like Wadc, LJB, Grad, etc say. These guys don't just blow smoke and spin things to favor OSU. You need to have some respect if you are going to post here.

I'd say ND is much more responsible for Iowa's Chicago pipeline drying up than Illinois as recruits Filer, Fleming, and Cwynar will attest. What was incorrect about landing the occasional top 20 Ohio player? Cordale Scott was the only one of note last year, and he was ranked 15th in the state by Rivals. In fact, you'd have to go out on a limb to even say Illinois finished a distant 5th in recruiting the state of Ohio. That's actually a fall off from Mason's success in the state.

it was more of the first part of that sentence than the 2nd.

EDIT: ND has always been relatively extremely successful in Illinois. Its not some new phenomenon. It might actually be better under Weis but iowa was having success in Illinois even when ND was recruiting well.

its the rise of Illinois and the steady great recruiting by ND that has hurt Iowa.

Out of those three, Wadc is the most fair and objective moderator. I listen to what he says, not so much the other two.

Yeah... the other two are (also) only Administrators.

Buh-bye loopy. Thanks for playin'... You'll have the rest of your weekend to pour into that book report you've been putting off writing.

I like that little "edit" you made to your original post.

Being called a "high school" kid and "loopy" makes me just hurt inside. keep this up and you might have me crying into my pillow at the end of the night.:sob:

Glad to see you dont have to resort to name calling on this board.

I love how one successful season equates to the "rise of illinois".

I'd wait for a couple more decent seasons before I'd go making any proclomations...

Well, ya know, whether it's a "rise" is sorta determined by where you started from. For the Fighting Illinini, there is no doubt that it is a marked improvement, and that the Zooker is bringing in better classes than they ever have. I'd give em a pass on that. The real question is what is their best case up-side? I think that they hit it last year. Now, they will not be a sure thing win for the Big-10 big 3 like they were in year's past, and that alone is a rise.

As long as Ron is there, they will get some athletes every year.

That is good for the Big-10, and good for tOSU.

You've graduated to sleeping in your own bed? Well done... big man you are!

We don't have to resort to name-calling, but sometimes it's just too much fun to pass up, loop-hole.

Plus, it'll give you that warm-fuzzy scout-board style you seem to wield and cherish so much.

They've made a tangible improvement, no doubt, but to say "rise" to me indicates an emergence as a consistent power. One good year does not a power make...

That would explain why you and your fanbase missed the boat on Fellows.

But seriously man, just let it go. It's an Ohio State site, one that does not partake in the bashing of tOSU in any way. Just take your inevitable infractions, PMs, and alike and become a better poster. The anti-sniper.

Once again, that's inaccurate. Iowa had success in Illinois while Davie and Willingham were at ND. Neither recruited Chicago very well (or anywhere else for that matter). This season, Zook only landed 2 of the top 10 players from his home state with the top 4 players all leaving the state to play elsewhere. Not exactly setting the world on fire in the recruiting world.
