Illinois Fighting Illini (you'll see)

That's a shame. I kinda liked having him around, though his arguments didn't make sense all the time and I didn't like his "find the awkward loophole" angle. Lopo = Loophole

And can we get another Mod to give LJB a GPA? THAT was how you back up an argument.

"OrangeRoughy, Illinikid, lopo89."

Out of those three, Roughy is the more fair and objective visitor. I listen to what he says, not as much with the other two.

You like me! You really like me!!

*tear*

Of course, winning a beauty contest against Kid and Lopo is like beating RichRod and Kelvin Sampson in a "leaving a job with your dignity intact" contest. If only there were such a thing, Lou Tepper would have a trophy sitting on his mantle. His first.

They've made a tangible improvement, no doubt, but to say "rise" to me indicates an emergence as a consistent power. One good year does not a power make...

True. And the majority of my Illini brethren don't seem to understand that we've yet to arrive. (At least my brethren who have study hall 5th period, that is.)

Howevah - I truly do believe we are rising to the level of consistent Big Ten title threat. Several Big Ten teams have made a good run at it the last 15 years, with Wisconsin being the most successful. Purdue had some good teams in there, Iowa made a nice little surge, and even Minnesota and Michigan State had their moments. But for the most part it's still a Papa Bear (tOSU), Mama Bear (Michigan), Baby Bear (PSU) world.

I think we'll look back in 10 years and say that the Illini run from 2007 to 2017 was the most successful Goldilocks run of them all. Why? A coach who gets it (recruiting is 66.67% of the game) in a state where there's a fertile recruiting base (much more talent in Illinois than there is in Wisconsin, or Minnesota, or Iowa, or Indiana).

As I pointed out earlier in this thread, Illinois pulled in 4 blue chippers (4-star or 5-star guys) in the first half of this decade (less than one per year), and 21 since Zook arrived. Many of those guys will be freshmen/sophomores this year, so we're still not there yet. I'm looking at a window of 2009-2011 when the Illini will have some really fantastic teams.

And it looks like someone agrees with me:

Illinois. The story is that dynamic quarterback Juice Williams struggled this spring. The reality is that Illinois is going to be scary good on defense with an influx of developing young players. No team in the Big Ten will have a better front four or secondary, and if young linebackers Martez Wilson and Ian Thomas learn quickly, Illinois won?t be far from another significant jump.

Can someone give me a general idea of what the article is about?

It's fearless predictions for the Illinois 2009 class done by the staff at O&B News. Without giving away premium info let's just say there are a few names on his list that many of us have penciled/penned/etched in stone into the OSU 2009 class.
