Impending Assistant Coach Vacancies

Here's my solution if Schiano and Grinch both leave...

  • Hire Marcus Freeman as the DC
  • Bring in Al Washington and give him the title of Special Teams and Recruiting Coordinator, but also let him learn under Larry Johnson. Won't be too long before we need a successor to him
  • Do everything you can to hire Terrell Buckley to figure out the secondary. He's at Miss. St. right now and their defense allowed just over 2,000 yards thru the air and only 8 TD's all season. He caught my eye when he was at Louisville

So Saban, Meyer and now Lincoln Riley have competed for Grinch's services.

Schiano has a good track record and is a top shelf recruiter

Day has a decision on his hands here

If all things are equal you take the younger guy who will be here longer.

That’s always been my knock with Greg, this just seemed like a stop over gig. I remember everyone hoping he would be here 2 years but expected just one year. I never liked that.

Yep it's Grinch or Schiano and at this point I'd be tempted to Schiano thanks for all your work but it's time to go.

Yeah, time to commit to Grinch and his system, and allow Schiano to seek new opportunities. They brought him in for a reason, and they gave him the title of CoDC to eventually be the full time DC for a reason. Time to commit to it.

Well the caveout to that is that was Meyer that brought him in not Day. So day might want to do his own thing.

I imagine in time, he would like to. But as a coach getting his first opportunity to be a head coach (especially an offensive coach), he probably would like to keep the defensive side somewhat intact.

That's what I was afraid of. Schiano not moving on fast enough causing us to lose them both cause Schiano wants to pick the perfect job not a job. However if Day decided to let them both go and it's not a case of Schiano slow playing costing us Grinch that would be interesting.

Lamb is clearly suggesting it's the latter with his "OSU hasn't been reactive to anything" comment.

Interesting
