I could be wrong but I think it’s gonna be Gannon from the Colts. Just an educated guess.

It doesn’t surprise me Day dipped into NFL ranks on Hafley. It’s a great selling point for DB’s whose goal is to get to the NFL. Gannon has a great reputation, and although his style is different from Hafley, he still carries that confident AF demeanor. And it’s pretty amazing you can go from an NFL DB coach, to a HC in college making millions.

This will be a highly sought after job. And Day has earned the benefit of the doubt on whoever he hires.

But I will miss Hafley. Dude was special.

OSU being “DBU” started long before Coombs ever got here... Tressel and Cooper both loaded up on NFL alums in the secondary: we had 1st-round CBs in 97 and 99-01 (Springs, Winfield, Plummer, Clements, and then some) - that’s where our DBU starts.

Not really, around that time I wouldve ranked a team like Miami, over osu. Osu's string of 1st rounders and guys drafted overall seemed higher under Coombs. Yet in still, he raised the bar for the secondary

I'd put Shawn Springs, Ty Howard and Antoine Winfield at nickle (1996 Corners) against just about anyone. The only way that could have been better is if that traitorous schmuck Chas didn't drink the evil juice and head north.

The top priority remains former Buckeyes cornerbacks coach Kerry Coombs. And multiple sources have indicated to Lettermen Row that the program will wait to start contacting other candidates until Coombs makes a decision about his future, prioritizing a reunion with the energy-giving, hashtag-loving, draft-pick-producing assistant.

It’s obviously not a certainty that Coombs would want to head back to the college ranks after leaving the Buckeyes to try his hand in the NFL with Tennessee. Coombs is part of a staff that is ranked No. 8 in the league against the pass, and the Titans are still in the wild card mix heading into the final two weeks of the regular season. So, he’s certainly proved that his approach can work at every level of football.

From the Ohio State perspective, those two years with the Titans have only enhanced a resumé that it already knows well. Coombs is undoubtedly a culture fit, and the support for him to rejoin the staff quickly went all the way to the top of the athletic department last weekend when Hafley’s move became official. The Buckeyes would be ready and willing to give Coombs a raise from the $500,000 he earned with the program in 2017 — and likely the co-defensive coordinator title as well after adding two more years of valuable experience.
