Indiana at tOSU, November 21st, Noon on Fox

Some thoughts from the box score

Pennix passing by quarter
1st: 5/14 for 50 yards. Long of 19
2nd: 7/8 for 147 yards and a TD. Long of 68
3rd: 6/9 for 146 yards. 2TD/1 INT. Long of 63
4th: 9/20 for 148 yards and 2 TD. Long of 56

Pretty consistent which reinforces what I think I saw live and that is the defense did not make many adjustments, or at least they weren't effective adjustments.

206 yards on 4 plays (42% of the total) screams out "busted coverage/blown assignments". It felt a lot like Maryland in 2018.

I also saw this from Ryan Day courtesy 11W, bold is mine:
“Any time you have a problem like that, it’s one of three things,” Day said. “You say to yourself, do you have the right personnel there? So you look at who’s doing it. Then the second thing is, what is the scheme? Does the scheme give our guys the right opportunity to be successful? And then if both of those boxes get checked, then it goes to coaching. Are we coaching it correctly? So I think that’s, when you’re trying to fix something, you have to identify one of these three things that needs to get addressed, or maybe a little bit of each.

“Usually, when you assess something like that, it’s not like, OK, it’s only this. It’s usually a little bit of this, a lot of this, maybe a little bit here or there. And if you tighten up all three of those areas, usually you see improvement.”

Asked about the possibility of making changes to the defensive lineup, Day indicated that he didn’t expect to replace any starters, but said that would also be evaluated during film study.

“At the end of the day, you have to put the best players on the field to make plays,” Day said. “We believe in our guys, we have confidence in our guys, so I’ll be very surprised if we have to make any changes. But maybe we will. We have to watch the film and see, because almost 500 yards of offense in terms of passing is too much, and that’s just not acceptable.”

  1. Right personnel? "We believe in our guys, we have confidence in our guys, so I’ll be very surprised if we have to make any changes."
  2. Right scheme? See stats above
  3. Coaching it properly? See stats above
Pretty revealing comments in my opinion.

LJB, great analysis. Refs didn't do tOSU any favors, and Penix, while a serviceable QB, isn't 500 yards that good against a decent D. PS, the 'like' button wasn't working on your post (at least on my box), so couldn't rep you. Go Bucks!

2. I'm not so confident in saying this, but I'm going to say it anyway: Ohio State isn't much better than they played yesterday...Until this team can prove that it has killer instinct, then I'm going to say that they just don't have it ... and without it, they're not going anywhere in the playoffs (if they can even make it that far).

3. After Week 4, Ohio State is not a serious national championship contender.

So, does this mean that Ohio State will win a national championship in 2020? Of course not. But it does mean that it's still a long season ... well, not exactly a long season at this point, but that there is still time for the Buckeyes to right their ship and plot their course to another title.

Seriously though, sounds about right.

and while I'm at it...B1G officials are a complete joke.

The first fumble that OSU didn't get occurs inside the IU 20, less than 4 minutes into the game and OSU up already 7-0. IU has that "oh shit" look in their eye and are getting hit like they've never been hit before by Proctor and Browning. Officials don't even stop to review it.

RATINGS GOLD: OHIO STATE-INDIANA GAME HIGHEST-RATED EVENT ON ANY NETWORK AND FOX'S HIGHEST-RATED GAME OF THE SEASON

It’s nice for at least one year, to have this arrow in our quiver.

Normally it makes me uncomfortable bc you know ESPN is looking at that and cringing. This year though, ESPN is desperate for any ratings they can get, and will no doubt, be pulling for tOSU internally to help boost CFP ratings.

That and they called one damn pick play when they ran it nearly every 3 or 4th and short and at least some of those times multiple WR's were clearly blocking. Oh and the confimed in 2 seconds incomplete pass review even Perria and the announcers wtf'd there. It probably wasn't going to be overturned but it sure as hell shouldn't be confirmed and especially not that fast.

Nor did the Ohio State coaching staff call a time out to force them to look at it in the booth. That was a MAJOR mistake.
