Cleveland Indians fire manager Eric Wedge - ESPN

Maybe we can hire the Kissing Bandit...she can't do any worse.

:groove::groove::groove::groove3::groove3::groove3:
Cleveland pitching coach Carl Willis, hitting coach Derek Shelton, bench coach Jeff Datz, first-base coach Luis Rivera, third-base coach Joel Skinner and bullpen coach Chuck Hernandez were also told they will not be retained, but some could be rehired by the Indians' next manager.

So, there are how many games left? Why not wait until the end of the season?
It was said that he wanted to know before the end of this season:) add their last three games are away so Dolan granted Wedge his wish and saved on travel money.

Would you let us talk to Farrell:huh: maybe I could get some guys together to give you some vcash if you could pull that off:)

Castrovince says "an internal hire is considered highly unlikely"

i guess there is word that Boston could release Farrell from his contract as they gave him permission to interview for the Pirates last year. But that was an NL team.

there was some speculation about Jim Tracy a while ago as well before Colorado promoted him as he was an Ohio guy. too bad.

One name to consider that I might like...Tony Pena.

For a rebuilding team, I don't think he would have the temperment. If we were close to competing, maybe.

Would LOVE Farrell. Bring him back to the Indians. He can be considered an 'external' hire, but in reality he is an internal guy that we farmed out to get experience to be our next manager :biggrin:

I see Buck Showalter coming up, not sure if that would be a good fit

I wouldnt mind seeing Hargrove comeback, but as an article I read mentioned its probably not likely hed be a manager, but he may be brought on as a bench coach

Grover would be a popular pick with the fans, but a bad move. He had some some of the most talented teams in baseball in the 90's and still couldn't deliver a title. I may never forgive him for his handling of the '99 series vs. Boston.

It would be like the Cavs firing Mike Brown and bringing back Mike Fratello...a lazy hire.

eh they could do worse than Grover IMO

just as long as they dont bring in Showalter, whoever they bring in will likely be an upgrade over Wedge, well this is the Indians though so we cant discount them doing something stupid

Grover was an average manager at best blessed with championship talent. He bombed in two jobs (and had one team quit on him midseason before he was fired) after leaving Cleveland. He'll always be popular to the casual fan because he led the team during their glory years, but bringing him in to a rebuilding situation when he's 60 years old would be a monumental mistake. They need a young, energetic guy that is a good manager and can develop all the young talent that will be filtering up over the next couple of years. I don't see anyway that Grover is the man for that job. They hire him, they're looking for a new guy again in 2-3 years IMO.
