Posters now comparing Ohio State to Mississippi State? Everyone here is going crazy.
I dunno. I mean, Starkville is just like Columbus. I mean, except for the extra million point two people. And better restaurants here. And more brewpubs here. And the major league hockey. Otherwise, though, the two cities are nearly indistinguishable.

Oh yeah, almost forgot to mention. I don't care if Jordan Hall and Travis Howard get the death penalty now.

Not sure why I said that, except it seems to be the thing to say.

Don't forget the Crew. Our furry friend kyle wouldn't let you live down forgetting the soccer team.

While this gets depressing after awhile, c'mon...this is such a minor violation. It seems the kind of thing you do in passing, don't realize it's wrong, and still have to pay for it. I can't get too mad, it is just nearing the straw that could break the camels back. We know over 70 players (Miami) will break the back, but we might be getting close. Hopefully the message is this: If it ain't from your family or paid for by you, the player, don't take it.

I'm betting that if we weren't under an anal probe for other violations, this would have been a quiet self-report and one game suspension for "violation of team rules." I think this is more the department putting the ball in the NCAA's court as a "fail-safe" for the current issues.

You would think so, but look at the Tat-5.. none of them sat when our HC knew something was up.

That may be the reason tOSU would do this - to show the NCAA that this shit will stop because yes, it does seem very minor to miss a game. Still think the players ought to know better but if everyone got one of these gift bags, then I don't see what the problem is to begin with.

Fuck the NCAA. With all of this being said, players should not take anything free anymore. You'd think they may have figured that out.........you know, given the fact that Tress was forced to resign...yadda yadda yadda. Hell, Ohio St. should start a player hotline that they can call if it's a questionable decision on their part. Even better, have them call me....I'll give them some sound advice..... "No".

Maybe I'm missing something here, but how the fuck is receiving a complimentary gift bag for attending a charity event, which everyone else attending said charity event presumably also received, an improper benefit? It would be improper if they were the only ones who DIDN'T receive one.

This shit is getting absurd. If a McDonalds worker gives the Baus some extra sauce on his big mac, are we looking at a multi-game suspension? If a buckeye fan let him cut the line to receive said big mac faster, are we looking at a new HC? If someone held the door open for him on his way in to purchase said big mac, are we looking at the death penalty?

There is a fucking difference between an improper benefit and and the unavoidable tendencies of humans, as well as the normalcies of things like gift bags at charity events.

Everyone is getting hung up on the gift bags. I can't believe that's the crux of the violation, especially a gift bag from a charity event that all attendees normally receive. The majority of the violation (or "value" of the bag) is likely in how they avoided paying to get into the charity event. Tickets for those can be expensive.

Still, this because of a freakin' charity event? I mean, I get that they're technically not allowed to receive anything outside of the school for free, but a bona fide charity event like a breast cancer awareness dinner? Yeah, I can see boosters using that as a big recruiting tool...

...and bowl game gift bags are 100% legal.

Exactly. Ex-friggin-actly.

The NCAA double standard is shocking. Starting with allowing the "Tat 5" to play, only to suspend then for 5 games in the future.

This whole thing is a total cluster, and I pray Fickell and co let the players know to not take any risks, period. No discussion, just play football, do school, hang out. Only an idiot would risk breaking the rules at this stage, with the NCAA/Media so far up tOSU'S ass.

Good I'm ready for football to just start already.

Could the Players now be banned from this Charity event?

Could Chris Spielman get barred from the sideline and off-field interaction with players?

Would this compromise ESPN reporting and coverage?

Could make for an interesting game calling on Saturday:

UM: Chris, the silver bullets look really crisp in the first quarter, Akron's offense is really struggling to find any rhythm thus far.

CS: Well Urban, I've been advised that should not make any comments about that while there is an ongoing investigation.

UM:...........

I kid, I kid.
