People who loved JaMarcus Russell ... NFL coaches and scouts.. analysts not looking for clicks...
People who loved Vince Young ... NFL coaches and scouts.. analysts not looking for clicks...

I'm sure there are literally hundreds of other examples.....

Look how that turned out.

It's mid October and the NFL Season is well underway. Today at 1:00pm we have the Minnesota Vikings and their rookie quarterback JJ McCarthy facing off against the Eagles in Philadelphia.

Here we see McCarthy, after completing his pregame warm ups, sit quietly beside the goal post to meditate and reflect on his role in the upcoming game. He is deep in thought when a well placed 64oz styrofoam cup of urine falls directly into his lap.

Eagles 33 - Vikings 6

Anything is possible. But what the NFL and drafting *should* be working on, is what is probable.

JJ is no greater a talent with his current floor than Brock Purdy was 2 seasons ago.

I'm convinced there are NFL front offices, the few good ones, that plant these types of ideas to sow media hype. With the desired end result being if lesser NFL GMs will buy into the group think in a sort of quasi- conversion-disorder type experiment.

McCarthy could have a solid career. But to overvalue and overpay for him as he currently is, that's where the true insanity lies. Then you attempt to extrapolate too much that it borders on fantasy more so than reality.

Take away the UM natty and he's a day 3 prospect. Success brings eyeballs with it, and then those eyes tend to look for the most simple and easy explanation for said success, even if that means ignoring details and complexity.
