That's his point. Brady = 6th rounder but should've been 1st
JJ = 1st rounder that should've been a 6th
Brady = wasn't satisfied with 800 SB rings, wanted to go late into his 40s
JJ = thinks he reached the mountaintop by signing at Michigan

J.J. McCarthy isn't a top-10-caliber talent
A significant amount of his evaluation as an NFL prospect relies on guesswork/projection for what he could be since the Wolverines offense was so heavily run-first. Many of the route progressions he worked through in college were like playing quarterback with training wheels, and McCarthy's footwork is susceptible to breaking down when needing to step up in the pocket. One could make the argument he is a late first-round pick, and any team who takes him in the first half of the first round is reaching.J.J. That's where personnel people in the league make an official evaluation based on his tape, but then start hearing somebody else say they like him, so they go back and change their evaluation after another look at the tape and watching his pro day. One turns into two and two turns into four and on and on it goes. That is followed by the sheep media jumping in and doing the same thing. McCarthy is a good player, one who might be worthy of being drafted in the back end of the first round. But a top-10 pick? Please

Am I reading this right? He's #10 pick going to Minnesota? Did New York and Minnesota trade right before this pick, like Cleveland did with Detroit to get KWII? That would be awesome if Minnesota traded up just to get McCarthy. I never cared much for Minnesota before this - I always liked Cris Carter, of course, but he hasn't been there for 25 years. I wouldn't mind rooting against them while he's there.

The Vikings probably made the trade to insure that the Jets wouldn't trade the pick to another team that wanted the QB.

From his footwork to delivery sync, slow decision making and coming from an incredibly cut down offense, the kid has about as steep of a learning curve you'll find.
Should thank his Oline, running game and some yearly front office stupidity for getting him drafted as high as he was.
